I started the "Insanity" workout from Beachbody this week...wow the toughest thing I've ever done. I'm doing pretty good for my first week, haven't missed a workout yet, powering thru the entire workout, and following a strict diet of only about 500 cal. /meal 5 times a day. I'm hoping for some great results, I've worked out with a Bowflex Extreme 2SE for about a year and a half now and it's going great, but i really need something to kick my ass into overdrive and get the heart revving. This last workout I had a new HR monitor and got up to 161 BPM for a while, avg. of about 145 for 30 min. We'll see how it goes. Best of luck to all the SBG's out there trying to better ourselves!!! We can do it!!

Jim--
Be careful of NOT eating enough calories. If you eat too few calories your body may go into starvation mode and quit burning. 500 calories a day is awfully low...... evne if you may be a very small man.

He said 500 calories
per meal, 5 times a day. I was actually thinking earlier that 2,500 calories a day sounds a bit high for a weight loss regimen, but I suppose if the workouts are that intense the extra calories all get burned off.

1500=average, <1500 will result in weight loss for the average guy.

It depends of course on your build (length, weight) and amount of exercise, but for an adult man, 2500 Kcal - 3000 Kcal is quite normal.
If you want to to lose weight, it could be roughly around 2200 Kcal and 2500 Kcal.
Less the 2000 Kcal is for most men unhealthy low.
So 500 Kcal meals 5 times a day makes sense to me.
(But again keep in mind: it depends on your build and excercise.)

once every 3 months, i will bike down from Estes park which is 8500 feet above sea level along US 34 to Loveland
That ride would give me a good lung workout, what with all the terrified screaming. Good arm workout, too, what with white-knucklin' the hand grips all the way down. I remember that route all too well, saw a few vehicles turned upside down in the creek including one cement mixer.
You are truly a better man than I. I would never attempt that ride on anything that didn't have doors on it.

Sorry for the confusion guys. RazorX is right...500x5 meals+2500cal. total for the day. According to the plan, you can adjust the cal. intake up or down depending on what your end desires are. Lower to lose weight, a bit higher to gain muscle, as long as the cals. are good protein and carbs. I'll admit the hardest part for me is the diet, trying to come up with that many meals each day is a challenge. I currently weigh 205 lbs. and would like to drop to about 195 or so, as long as I can get lean and built at the same time. just looking for some good overall definition and muscle build, not to be on the cover of Men's Health or anything...we'll see how it goes...

500x5 meals+2500cal sorry, that's 5x500=2500, not an additional 2500 just to be clear!

Yes, the Insanity nutrition plan is more calorie intensive than than P90x... I'm doing Insanity right now (on my 2nd month) and the nutruition plan said that I should be eating 3200 calories per day for my height and weight for weight maintenance, which is 5' 11", 190.
And for an update, since it's been awhile, I did 4 rounds of P90x and started to plateau, which is why I decided to switch to Insanity for a "break" from P90x! Needless to say, as good as shape as I thought I was in after those 4 rounds, Insanity is kicking my butt up one side and down the other... But it feels soooooo good!

I started the Power90 by BeachBody this past weekend. Was looking into the P90X but lots of folks said to start with this as a way to work up to the P90X.

good choice on the Power 90. Ive done it and saw good results. P90x was a bit of a time commitment for me so I havent done that yet. I do a combo of weights and cardio right now. Just doing different things to keep me interested.
A lot of people recommend P90X but the reality is you have to be in decent condition already to do it.
