Blade Changing
« on: May 15, 2010, 12:38:56 AM »
Since im going to be shaving tonight or tomorrow morning. I was curious as to how often to change blades. I bought myself a head blade and im anxious to try it out. I was just wondering if I shave lets say once every other day. how often would I have to change blades. and how do you know when to change blades?

Depends on the blade. Some blades just dull to the point of not cutting well and others go out with a bang- skipping and nicking the skin. A little bit of practice and you'll figure out how long a blade lasts and can plan on when to change them. Like everything else with head shaving, there's a learning curve. Good luck with the HB.  :)

First, the important thing, congrats on deciding to commit to a smooth sly scalp.  Second, blade changing.  It depends not only on the blade, but how much hair remains to  be shaved everyday, whether it's thin & fine or thick and coarse, whether you shave only your head--as in the HB system--or your entire face & head and whether you decide to have some facial hair.
I use the M5 now, used Fusion before--same blade for head and face, fine hair, etc., so I can easily use the same blade for at least a week and have extended that to two weeks.  Also, as you probably have seen, there are many things regarding the care and keeping of the blade that effect it.
So final answer, use it until it's not giving you a smooth clean shave--then change.

I'm with everyone else.  It depends on your hair, the blade, how dry you keep it between shaves,  etc

I shave my head every other day, and use the HB as well.  I tend to change the blade after about a week and a half or so.....give or take a day or two here and there.  Unfortunately with the HB, there is no strip on the blade that tells you "Hey it's time to change me!"  Unlike razors like the Fusion, and Xtreme 3.  But like the other gents say, it depends on your hair too, so it's kind of trial and error.

also regarding the headblade I had a hard time shaving with it. I didn't put pressure on the blade as i've read not to, but when i would shave with it I felt like it wasn't taking nearly enough hair off. I did a once over with the headblade then did another sweep with my mach 3, I felt more comfortable with the mach 3,  With the headblade do you put ANY pressure on the blade? thanks in advance.

Man I don't know why you waited so long!  Looks great  O0  Stick with the Mach3 for a while.  Then go back to the Headblade when you have the routine down.  Sensor3's do the job for me.  They actually look kind of like the end of a Mach3.
