Falling Away from SLY
« on: April 15, 2010, 04:59:02 PM »
I have to admit that shaving the dome is more work than letting it grow out to #2 and keeping it buzzed at that length.  Folks I work with seem nearly indifferent to my being slick vs. buzzed, at least as far as the comments I get go.  In fact, I get somewhat more positive remarks when there's fuzz versus shine, and those outside of my work with whom I'm close prefer the fuzz to the shine.

Should I listen to my inner soul ("Take it off!") or to the voice of society ("What's with this 'bald look'?")?  As I said, I'm lazy, really, and it's easier to let what I've got grow out a bit and then, every two or three weeks, mow it down to bristle.  I don't really care, actually, one way or the other.  Much less work, however, to be heavily-shorn, but short of shaven.  Soul or Society?

Only the  Ming knows for sure. Dude..... what the Hell do you care what society thinks? I've saved myself a lot of crap in my lifetime by not caring what others thought.

Over the winter months I do the buzzed thing. I find that it's enough of a break that I don't get bored with shaving during the rest of the year.

Soul vs Society: The eternal struggle.  :-\

Ray, I gotta say that Sly Ming absolutely projects a certain charisma. I'm sure some associates of yours find the look more challenging than the warm and fuzzy looking Buzz Ming. You definitely look more assertive, and, dare I say, younger when you are slick. But, as you say, the upkeep is much more work. And you are still you, no matter what's on top. So .... whatever feels good, mate!

A couple of years ago, I started shaving my face with neat old Straight razors and Double Edge safety razors- along with using a brush, mug and traditional shaving creams and soaps. I turned what was a "boring routine" into a hobby- collecting neat old razors and brushes and trying different things. Now, shaving is a highlight of my day...maybe you could incorporate some type of idea like that into your day.  O0

Like others said, though- it's all up to what you want...

I've never been one to give a damn what society or others think and you seem to be in that same category.  Go where your heart leads you.

You have to do what ever makes you happy and feel more confident about yourself.  And whatever you decide, you'll still have friends here on the SBG forums.

Nothing wrong with a short buzz. I'm lazy with the razor so that's how I wear mine most of the time as well. I feel good, look good and enjoy alternating between the two doos. If I'm going to dress up sharp and go out, 99% of the time I'm grabbing the razor. Day to day basis I'm fuzzy. It's your head, do what you like when you like.

Hey Ming, like the guys have said; it's your head and your choice. Don't let anyone else pressure you to do what you don't feel like doing.

I just shaved yesterday, after a two week growout/buzz. I usually do this about every other month.
Now that it's starting to warm up here though, I will be shaving daily.

I always know when it's time to shave again, you just get that feeling, and I'm sure alot of our other bro's can agree. It feels so great when you get it back to "smooth".

Believe me, you'll know when it's time yourself. For now, enjoy the buzz!     O0
