Alternative to shaving?

Hi guys,

First time poster! Awesome forum board, loads of info and helpful people. Thank you in advance.

I have been shaving my head for a year and a half now every morning after my morning shower. I feel it to be the best and the most comfortable time to shave.

I loved my hair until I started losing my hair from the top but the back was fine. I like the bald look and do not regret shaving my head.

Onto my question!

Other than shaving everyday or waxing (I dislike waxing) is there any other way to stay bald? I mean do I have to shave everyday to keep a clean shaven look and feel or can I use some cream or lotion or something that might slow down or perhaps stop the follicle growth for a few days in between?

First of all, welcome to Sly Bald Guys!

It's rumored that people use electrolysis (Laser hair removal) to remove all the hair on their head, but this is very expensive, and in my book, very risky.  All of the creams such as Nair all warn to NOT use on the face or scalp.  So, right now, I'd say it's best to stick with shaving.

Electrolysis is the only thing I know of but I would never do it, I like the metal agianst the skin.

Welcome Mike, nice that you joined us.  Definitely stay away from the hair removal creams.  Tried one that was SUPPOSED to be for the head and it burnt like hell and didn't even do a good job.  Shaving still the way to go.

I second the stay away from hair removal creams.  I tried Nair for Men once and think it would have hurt less if I'd used gas and a match.  Good luck in your search.

Now here is a great question for you: After Shave Alcohol worse than the Hair Removal Cream, or Vice Versa?

I would rather have alcohol aftershave that Nair again any day of the week.  The Nair was a burn that you couldn't get off.  At least the aftershave burn goes away fairly quickly.

I concur.    The two best parts are lathering up and the cold water rinse imho.

First off thank you everyone for the prompt and informative replies. Great to have honest feedback.

I tried some of the hair removal cream in the past but just as you guys described it did not work as intended.

To answer Funnel Weavers question as to why I would want to wait a few days between shaving - well, I don't. However, my job requires that I travel... A LOT! While traveling to different parts of the world I usually run into weather problems of all kinds. After shaving regardless of how much the cream I use to soothe and shine me scalp some weather just tends to prove quite discomforting. My scalp is usually quite itchy and dry and sometimes I feel like my scalp is shedding (possibly due to dry skin).

My scalp is sensitive and when I shave I take good care to not have any bumps or ingrown hair. In trying to avoid the mishaps I end up spending upwards of 20 mins plus to shave. Most of the time I have a hard time waking up in the morning due to timezone difference and then to spend an hour and make it to a meeting can be a bit.. overwhelming for me atleast. That is why I was just wondering rather than going the surgical way if there were any alternatives to not shaving everyday. Don't get me wrong, I love taking a shower and pull out my razor and shave away it's a great feeling and often times in the past I had the pleasure of having my girlfriend do it for me which was even more delightful - altho I was somewhat nervous!

To get specific to the issue,  I could not recommend more to you Clear Head and HeadLube from HeadBlade.  You can find both of the products either in your local drug store (more than likely Wallgreens or CVS) or you can also find the stuff on the Website <HeadBlade.com>.  Clear Head will take care of your issues with Razor Bumps and Ingrown Hair, and the HeadLube is One of the Greatest things I have Used.  Living in Arizona, its Tremendously Dry, and it is easy to dry out your Skin/Scalp... I find that a little HeadLube after my morning shave not only sooths the skin quite effectively, but also keeps the skin soft and moisturized.  If you even want a Closer shave, and want to take care of some of that dead skin, Try a little HeadShed before (After) your shave... I find that that has really helped me get a closer shave, but also has helped keep the Dead Skin to a Minumum.  The combination of all of these: the HeadLube and HeadShed specifically keep me soft and Supple, and I have widely heard that Clear Head is Great for the Bumps and Ingrown Hairs.  Give'em a Try.  Hope that they Help!  Shave On Brother
