First bad cut..Dangit
« on: March 04, 2010, 11:24:20 PM »
I've been sly a month now, and have shaven every day.  I get a nick every now and then, but nothing to bad and hardly noticed.  I just started shaving in the shower last week.  It's been great, faster, less mess and a great shave.

Today, though, I cut my head bad for the first time.  >:( I'll admit I was going a little faster than usual.  As I shave I feel with my none shaving hand ahead of the razor.  For some unknown reason I stopped my nonshaving hand and my M5 hit it and slide to the side.....OUCH.

I couldn't see the damage until I got out of the shower, but there was a lot of blood.  I pictured it to be a nice little slice.  When I looked in the mirror, to my horror, I found it to be 5 nice little slices.

I finally stopped the bleeding and I'm gonna live, but there is very noticable gash on my head. :-[   Is there anything I can put on it to help heal it faster.  I love my sly dome and this blemish is driving me crazy. :Xo!

Has anybody done this that can tell me how long it might take to heal.

Any pointers will be very appreciated.
Any similar stories will also be appreciated, misery loves company

Thanks
Scott

P.S.  I'm not computer savy enough to post a picture of the damage yet. But I'm working on it.

While my cuts to the dome are usually the result of no longer having the hair "radar", when I do have a cut I'll just put some antibiotic cream on just before bed and it really seems to help speed up the healing process.  It will take a few days before you'll be able to shave over that area.

Yes, there's a lot of blood on a head slice, but that also is the reason they heal fast, even in a fogy like me--the ample circulation speeds the restorative metabolism there.  Not much more you can do to goose along the process, but just leave it to nature--at least I never found anything.  I just had to be very careful not to whack it again for the few days it was getting itself healed.

One of the things I've found that works really well for me is Gold Bond Ultimate Restoring Skin Therapy Lotion with CoQ10. It stings a bit on fresh nicks/cuts but I've seen marked improvement in cuts in just a couple of days. Plus it keeps the skin in the affected area soft whereas without the lotion the cuts would scab up and stay kind of dry which makes my heal time longer. They sell this stuff at Wally World.

That's why I'm using double blades. :)

Today is my second time shaving, and my first time slicing.  Sigh.  I am glad I ran into this post; it makes me feel better about it.  As you said, misery loves company.

I know the feeling man. I had a cut on my dome the size of my whole razor blade  :'( but if you let nature take its course, it will heal in a matter of days  ;D

I got a bit of a sideways slice going on today, and I've been shaving four and half years, so it happens >:(

It's usually when I'm in a hurry, and then I get later than ever while I stop the bleeding! :/O

Yeah, the best thing I have found is styptic powder.  A friend of mine's son got if for me.  He's a barber.  It stops a minor cut in it's tracks.  Also seems to heal faster.  8)

The very first time I shaved my head, I razor burned and cut myself bad. I had blood going down the sides of my face. I had to let it grow back and get it clippered all off two weeks later. I didn't give up. I tried a variety of things to shave and eventually found something that worked. I use Women's shaving gel and a certain brands of Women's razors that my wife uses. I also found washing my head with shampoo and conditioner really saves on the cuts and irritation. Currently, I use a facial scrub with tea tree oil that really soothes irritation.

i know it would sting but i use a styptic pencil on all my nicks and cuts that i can see. it helps close it faster and leave less of a scar. after my head dries i use hand salve with lanolin or antibiotic ointments across the grape works wonders. bigger nicks need several treatments or paste but that is messy

I took a nice dime sized slice with my head blade a few months back.    I used liquid bandage to keep it clean and it healed pretty quickly and kept it dry and clean.    It also stopped the bleeding.    For me it was lack of attention - hasn't happened since :-)
