Need some confidence boost.. Anyone care to help? thanks
« on: February 17, 2010, 02:43:14 AM »
Hello guys..

Hmm.. Today is the worst day of my life. Well, im Michael 20 pinoy college "balding" student. Well. I think i have a level 2 or 3 vertex on norwood scale.. Im thinning on top.

A week ago, I had a Buzz cut. At first, its fine. my girlfriend and friends  like it. Except my mom ofcourse. after a week. my (remaining) hair started to grow back making the bald spot in the crown so obvious, Last night, i took some pictures of my dome( see the first photo below). I got a bit angry on something. In fact, it really disturbed me. I really find it hard to accept this 'coz of my age. the fact that i'm the only 1 balding on our school makes me feel really down.

So today, i went to the barber shop to have another buzz cut. i'm thinking a 1 buzz cut since everyone told me it looks nice. I asked the barber if its that obvious. He told me that it is obvious when under the light so its better to give a 0 buzz cut a try. So.. Thats what i did.

I posted a couple of pics from my no.1 cut, when it started to grow back, to the 0 buzz cut i had earlier.
DO i look ridiculous with this look? does my skull shaped fine to you guys? considering the "kinda" huge bump on the left side of the my skull.

Nothing wrong with your head shape Cypher.  It looks good.  It will look even better with the zero buzz.  Go for it.

Dude, you look badass with the 0 buzz.  Shave it all the way or keep at a 0.  You rock the look, bro.

I think it looks good too.

I've got a bump toward the front of my noggin but it doesn't cause me any trouble. I'm able to shave normally, I just go right over it.

Just do it

Couple of suggestions:

Buy a hair trimmer. Paying a barber for a 0 buzz cut is not that good of a move. You'll use it to trim other stuff as well, so it will be worth it.

The 0 looks cool, honestly. I would try shaving, take a couple of pics and show us. If you don't like it, no biggie. It will grow back to the 0 look in 48 hours. Try shaving this Friday and by Monday nobody will notice, trust me.

Forget about your mother. Mine is the same. They all are. They are square and old school. Just tell her she needs to embrace the look because it makes you more confident and less aware of your MPB. In a couple of weeks she'll act like nothing is wrong.

Good luck

I was actually having a conversation with a fellow sly guy that I was talking to today when I went to a museum and we were discussing that its okay for guys to have scars slight dents or imperfections because we are not kept in a protective isolation but rather we have been around played sports got knocked around and I personally wear my imperfections as a badge of manhood.  To use an analogy look at leaves on a tree I dare you to find a leaf that isn't perfect, every leave has slight discoloration is not perfectly symmetrical etc.  if that is not a comfort for you to hear consider the fact that a lot of guys told me early on when I was a bit insecure, that we are our own worst critic we see our imperfections in photos or in the mirror and we magnify it a thousand fold.  Other people are not noticing imperfections the way we view it.

I have to tell you I think with a zero you look amazing, I encourage you to go one step further and shave it.  I think you have a very nice shaped dome and I think you are a better man for going Sly.

Thanks a lot guys. hmm i'll consider shaving. but first, i have to buy some stuff.. well i cant shave my whole head using just the small shaver that my mom used to shave her legs.. i dunno. but its kinda hard to me..

You guys were right.. We are our own worst critic.. Maybe i'm just a bit insecure 'coz my mom's comment was a bit harsh when i had the #1 buzz cut.. imagine what she was like when she saw me with 0 buzz cut. hehe
i dont have a class 'till tomorrow so people haven't seen me like this. I just dont know if i can handle too much negative comments..

I think. i'll just stay with the 0 buzz for a week. So people around me can adjust. hehe after that. I'll defintiely try shaving. well.. there's no harm in trying.

Again, thanks a lot guys. This community never cease to impress me.
Now im confident hehe I just need to learn how to handle negative comments..  well.. im a bit short-tempered so.. I'll definitely need to change that.

Good day.

-Michael

Michael,
How did it go at class?  Did you get compliments?  Just remember that a big change can be shocking and people don't know how to react.  So, don't give up.

hmmm.. well college students can be a jerk sometimes..
My friends, keep asking me this::
"hows the chemoteraphy?"
lol.. i honestly don't know how to react on that one. so i just smile hehe

Fortunately, my girl said it looks fine though we havent met personally, she just saw me on webcam.

honestly, at first im kinda scared. But now, haha i dont care. Well, i like this look better compared to my previous long hair with a "hole" on top. So..now..  I dont give a crap about what people thinks. hehe

I'll just be me. hair is the only thing i lost in the first place. i still got my face and attitude so there's no reason to lose confidence.

Thanks to you guys!

hmm one thing though,   i find a lot of guys staring at me like they wanted to buy a fight or something.. hehe This look might get me into trouble lol..

anyway.. i think my mom finally embraced the look. at last! hehe
I think i'll just keep it at 0 for the moment. but if things get worst. well.. I'll definitely shave it.
