Ready to be sly but need some encouragement!

Hey guys,
I finally became a member after lurking for some time and have found some great encouragement and words of wisdom from many of you. I feel like becoming a member here is a huge step for me. I'm 40 years old and have balding for at least 15 years. At first I tried to cover it with creative combing, them moving onto coverups like Couvre (so messy I hated it) eventually using Rogaine, which I hated the fact that I would have to use it for the rest of my life and spending money I really didn't have at the time. I even had a consultation with a hair replacement company here in town. They took polaroids of the top of my head that made me feel even worse than I did, after which they placed this "system" my head that felt so uncomfortable and unnatural. I knew right then and there I would never walk down that road.
Over the years I just started cutting my hair shorter and shorter. First a no 2 clipper and now a 0 clipper. I like the way it looks when it is buzzed but after a few days or so I see my old friend the horse shoe making it's way back through again. After seeing some pictures that were taken of me this weekend from the back I was even more convinced that "sly" is the way the way to go. It makes me feel about twenty years older than I am.
My girlfriend seem to be OK with it and I'm not to worried about peoples reactions at work because it's not like I'm going from a hairpiece or a combover to completely bald. I've even had people ask if I have shaved my head after one of my tight buzzcuts and the've said it looks good. I think I have a good shaped head and my on'y concern is freckles on top of my dome in the summertime. They have faded in the winter from lack of sun but I guess I'll have to be careful of sun exposure in the summer months.
Any words of encouragement would be greatly appreciated and any stories of how you guys went about your first shave would be good too.
Thanks in advance, a future "Sly Guy".

Welcome Chris, you've definitely come to the right place if you are looking for encouragement on being sly. Many great people here to help you along the way. You need to just go for it. You say that you are already doing a zero and have even been mistaken for shaving all the way so there will be no major adjustment. While the zero buzz may give the appearance of being shaved, nothing beats that smooth all over feeling and appearance. When you do shave, be sure to follow our 30 day rule and keep it sly till then. Once that milestone is made you'll stay sly. Good luck

Welcome to the SBG Chris. There isn't much difference between a 0 and smooth. Go for it!

If, for whatever reason, you don't like smooth and sly, after 30 days, stop shaving, in about 3 days, it will be 0 again.

Chris, if you're already doing a no-guard clipper to your noggin, if you shaved it clean on a Friday, by Monday it would look similar to your fresh no guard clip.
You're there man. The first shave is a blast so make sure you have time to enjoy the process.

Welcome Chris!
Let me tell you that I have never been a huge fan of face shaving but since I went sly (almost a year ago) the daily shaving became like a treat to myself that I don't want to miss a single day. It is giving me a head start into the day.
So, don't waste any time and try it. I bet you'll love it!

Welcome to the Forum Chris!
My Friend... you are nearly there already. Once you shave it smooth you will not believe how relieved you feel after shaving that last millimeter of hair.
Look for posts by SoonerSteve and PdxTodd about their long bouts with hair systems, drugs, etc. and the instant relief they gained with a simple act of shaving.
By the way.... women love SLY guys....

You are 98% there, "just do it"!
Now that would be a good Corp slogan for some company out there, I might try to pedal that one !
