That's a nice bike Robmeister.  My neighbor rides a Heritage Softail and loves it.  I'm hope to be able to trade my Sporty in for either a Heritage or Road King in the next year or two.

I had a great ride with the wife yesterday. It was perfect riding weather for this time of year. No heavy gear to stay warm.... just my leather with the liner, some mid weight gloves, and of course my helmet.

It's gonna be Robmeister's turn come 2011.  To celebrate 2010's ramp up in my business I'm buying one of these:

Very nice Rob...... I love the looks of the Heritage Classic. Do yourself a favor and take a ride on one and also on a touring model (like my beloved Road King) before you buy. You're going to see a pretty big difference in the ride.

That being said.... you can't go wrong with HD these days. Top notch quality........

Well, believe it or not, the wife and I just got back from Rocky Mountain Harley and threw our legs over some cool machines.....my wife likes the Ultra Classic Electra because of how cushy comfortable her rear pirch would be.

And I must say, it has a mighty nice feel to it.   I don't have my colorado endorsement so we couldn't test ride them today.  But we met a totally cool and knowlegeable guy who's gonna be our "guy."  So the ball's rollin     He was gettin' the wife all fired up about Sturgis (good salesman...lol).

By the way... I have a detachable back rest that goes on and off in about a minute for the wife's comfort. The windshield on the King pops on and off in about a minute also.... it gives a nice low slung cruiser look with the bags on and the shield removed. The Ultras are top notch but I prefer a more stripped down look.... just my preference.

I love the King and even when I buy another bike in a few years, the king will stay in my corral.

Honestly, brutha...I don't know a lot about the various nuances....but I know it was a 2007 "Ultra Classic" that we looked at and Nancy LOVED it!!!  It's sticker was $19K.  So it may not have been a CVO we sat on today.  Is it one of those "all CVO's are Ultra Classics, but not all Ultra Classics are CVO's" (or vise versa)?  

It'll be a process.  But if the wifey poo wants to do Sturgis bad enough T-H-I-S year, we may have to move up the purchase...lol!

Our "guy," Dave, educated us on all the cool interchangeable aspects that Harley's offer.   I've just always loved the Softail Classic look and added laid back cruiser feel.  And I'm not sure how much long distance touring we'll do.  So Dave said we could  set it up for a nice cushy pirch for Nancy that's softer than the stock softail pirch.  It's all good and very exciting.

Any other input from experienced Harley'ers is welcome!!!

Is it one of those "all CVO's are Ultra Classics, but not all Ultra Classics are CVO's" (or vise versa)?  

CVO's run across several different models. The CVO line is Harley's high performance line. They cost substantially more. That price you mentioned is NOT a CVO price.

If you and nancy are going to do a lot of 2 up riding..... stay away from the Soft Tail models...... one of which is that Heritage Classic that you like the look of. Go with the touring line..... better suspension for two up riding.

Rob, I think you will find that the Road King and most all of the touring bikes have adjustable rear suspension, which is very important when you are riding two up on occasion.    

Also, the Road King is a great touring bike for longer trips, such as the trip you want to take up Highway 76 to Sturgis!  I've known guys who go up for a day and turn around and come back, doing the speed limit plus a little.  So you would want a bike that is comfortable at 80 MPH for a long haul.  The Road King is an excellent choice, especially for those of us who like "naked" bikes without a lot of farings.  

I won a free 1 day rental at my local dealer and had a Road King Classic for a day!  It was a dream! The ride is smooth.  The wide front tire (compared to the narrower ones on Dyna's) is great especially on grooved concrete.  Also the Road King can handle the left lane of I-25 with no problem! 

Bikes like the Heritage Softail are great for biking around (I have one) but the Road King and the other touring bikes have a little less vibration and are the ones to have for a long trip.

Obviously I'm a big fan of the Road King. I love that I have bags and a windhshield but that I can take that shield off in seconds.
Also... if you buy the RK..... buy the 4 point docking hardware, the removable backrest, and the magnetic covers for the docking system. This stuff isn't cheap but itmakes the backrest removable in seconds.

This allows you to strip your King of the backrest and shield in seconds for a more naked look.
