My favorite is from my childhood and it's still made here once or twice a year.
It's a vegetable soup but not the type most are used to. The potatoes are skinned and cut in half, the carrots skinned and cut in half, and the beef put into the pot in one big piece. Tomatoes and cloves play a big part in this soup.
The soup broth is served over Kluski noodles and the meat, potatoes, and carrots are served on a platter and everyone helps themselves.
This is really a Polish vegetable soup.... It was a staple at GrandmaKoz's house thru my childhood.

Does Chili count ? It would be my favorite. If not, homemade vegetable or clam chowder.

Some of the best soup I've ever had was a Cilantro Cream soup in Rosarito, Mexico. Though, I've never found another place that made it.
My other favorites are Creamy Tomato Basil and Cream of Mushroom.

I make crab and corn soup (seasoned with jalapenos and thickened with pureed potatoes) that everyone seems to love.
There's a great recipe for Alsatian cabbage soup floating around the web. I improve on it by adding one (secret!) ingredient. (I love trying to recreate delicious things I've eaten out, and there's a soup place in Ann Arbor that has the greatest cabbage soup ever. My version comes close, I think.)
In summer I'll sometimes do iced watermelon soup, but it can be such a sticky mess that I only make the effort for that one on special occasions. (You start by pureeing an entire watermelon, in batches. Yes, I've overflowed the food processor a few times.)
