Should I be worried
« on: January 27, 2010, 08:59:49 PM »
I'm a 20 year old college student in pretty good shape. I eat well and exercise daily. The only thing that has me worried is my hairline. I'm basically a nw 3. When I feel bad about my hair, I read this site and it cheers me right up. I plan to go sly when my hairloss progresses, and I already cut it tight thanks to SBG.

Basically my only concern is that my hairline means I am aging quickly and will die young. Do you guys notice bald guys having more health problems? Any examples of guys going bald around 20 and making it to 65 or 70. Thank sly guys. This is the best forum on the Internet.

This is a vey odd post to me. Your hairline has nothing to do with aging. Look at all the very old men with horseshoes and other bad hairlines.
My Dad has a horseshoe and is going strong at the age of 74.

A receding hairline is not indicative of other health problems.  And your goal should be to live long past 65 or 70. ;)

Hair loss doesn't mean your aging quickly or that you have health problems.  Male Pattern baldness is genetic.  It just means you lose your hair in a pattern.  I don't like the pattern, so I shave my head.

If you have a sincere fear of aging quickly and dying young then might I offer, as a suggestion, that you live each day as though it is your last because life does not come equipped with a pause button.

I suggest that you take a shot at relaxing. If you know that you are a "nw3", which I assume is a pattern designation for mpb, you clearly worry too much and need to chill out a whole lot.

BTW, is this thread real or am I typing in a dream?

Thanks for the responses. You guys seem to think I am being ridiculous, but I am unconvinced. There have been plenty of studies linking Male Pattern Baldness to other health diseases. http://www.health.harvard.edu/fhg/updates/update1004a.shtml Check the bottom of that link if you are curious.

If a 10 year old developed Male Pattern Baldness do you think it could be indicative of other health problems? I think there may be some legitimacy to evolutionary school of thought that MPB is considered "unattractive" so women know not to breed with someone with bad genes. Sly gets rid of this problem, and it is one of the reasons I love the style.

I am not totally equating MPB with bad health. Some guys just won't produce much DHT and will maintain their hair till they croak. However, baldness seems to go hand in hand with things we know are bad for our health, like smoking (http://www.eurekalert.org/pub_releases/2007-11/jaaj-amw111507.php).

I really didn't mean to bring negativity to this usually upbeat place. I guess I'm just thinking out loud. Even if I am destined to die prematurely, I guess it's a waste to worry about it and just better to live my life.
