Taking the plunge
«

I am new here and about to take the plunge (literally in about 10 minutes). I am nervous about taking the leap, mainly because I'm concerned about my skin revolting and getting lots of razor bumps. I'm posting my starting routine, experienced shavers please comment and I'll give an update on my results in a couple of days. I try to use all natural products when I can, so I'm hoping to find a chemical free groove.
Skin type: African American, sensitive
-Starting by cutting low with Andis edgers
-Washing with hot water and natural soap
-Shaving with Head Blade and Head Slick with the grain
-Cold water rinse
-With hazel wipe down
-Raw shea butter rub down
Wish me luck!

Welcome to the forums. It looks like you've done your homework on shaving. Your planned routine looks good, but remember what may work for some, won't work for other, and vise-versa. Let us know how it goes and if you have a problem, there are plenty of guys on here to help you out.

Hey lew, Welcome to the SBG forum. Sounds like you're off to a good start.
Enjoy the shaving experience, and take it slow with the HB, to allow yourself to get used to it .

Welcome Lew! Nice and slow with the HeadBlade until you get used to it! It's a great tool.
Post up a photo when you get a chance.

I took the plunge about 5 years ago and haven't looked back!
I see lots of people talk about how girls love a bald guy, sadly, I don't get that
You'll love the new look though!!!

Okay,
So it's been almost two weeks and things are going okay. I am about to try the Atras tomorrow. The HB triples work pretty good, but they clog really easy. I rinse after every pass and it still clogs, which is limiting the life of the blade. I have had some dryness issues, but I think it may be the Headslick. I am going to pick up some shaving oil this week and see if there is a difference. I am now down to one direction only...front to back everywhere, and that's working pretty well. I'm also thrilled to have very low razor bumps/irritation issues (as long as I shave every day).

Glad to hear it's working for you. Wish I had it planned out that well when I started!

Could it be you're using too much of the headslick? Sure, the triple blades tend to clog more than the doubles but I'm having no problems with cleaning them.
Besides that, congrats on your success so far.
