Every sly guy's #1 regret ...
« on: January 20, 2010, 06:31:51 PM »
... is "I should have done it sooner."  We hear it time and time again. I think almost every guy here has expressed this sentiment at one time or another.  I misplaced my photo ID/building access card to the office today.  I had to rely on my old one -- which no longer works electronically (and which, by rights, I really should have turned in when I got the new one), but if you flash it at the security guard they'll still let you in.  This card is 11 1/2 years old.  I looked at the photo which showed what was still a relatively thick but clearly receding head of hair, and it looked much worse than I'd remembered.  I realized today that I should have been shaving it even back then.  I had been considering at the time, but I was waiting to lose more hair.   :/O  The old "hang onto what I have while I can" shtick. I waited 3 1/2 years after this photo was taken to take the blade to my scalp, and for the life of me, I can't understand now why I waited so long or why I was so afraid to take the plunge.

Amen on that front Razor.  All those years, all that agony, all that money -- holding on to the dream of hair?   When Michael Jordan became popular I thought back then that the time was right to do it.  I only wish I had done it back then.   I've posted before on the financial cost of my quest to regain my hair -- $72,000 in hair systems + thousands upon thousands for lotions, potions, and pills.   What this group has taught me is that we all went through that agony and the moment we whipped the blade out -- all of the pain, agony, and turmoil went down the drain.

I'm still relatively new to sly -- crossing into my second month in a week or so.   I can honestly say that I haven't had a single negative comment about being sly (well other than my wife announcing that she's divorcing me -- but that has nothing to do with hair).

For all of you on the fence and agonizing over whether to take the step or not -- from one who was in your shoes not so long ago -- take the step, you'll be so much more happier with yourself and you'll look back and like Razor said -- wishing that you had done is sooner.

I don't have a scanner so I can't put it online and I don't have any digital pics going back that far.   This is the oldest photo I can find that shows the state of the hairline.  This is after I'd shaved it once and for some reason grew it back.   :/O  I think I shaved it for the second time a month or so after this was taken.  The photo on my work ID wasn't this bad:

Nice post Razor! And so true! I wish I had shaved my head about 6 or seven years sooner than I did.

Guilty as charged >:(.  10, maybe even 15 years before would have been better.  For some reason this made me think of that day, already knowing it was toast, as I tied my tie, I could see the window behind me through my hair-grief :-[.  Then, and I don't know the why for this either, I got my wife's makeup mirror and held it above my head--not only could I see through it, I had two hair lines, one in front supported by two "spots" of growth, and a band of thin hair between my ears that ended in the hole in back.  That was March 2007, and if I'd had the balls to do the deed then it would have been better.  But I tortured myself, worried what other people, and wife, would think--it wasn't their f'ing hair.  A couple of months later I found this site, I lurked.  Then freedom on 10/12/07, it should have be 1997 or even 1990.  Well, I throw myself on the mercy of the court. :-[ :-[ :-[

Thats a good point Razor. Now you mention it I think everyone here has said the same thing. Haha. I know I should have been shaving mine at least two years before I started.

Could be... I'd been buzzing my head for two decades before going sly. I still wonder what the holdup was.

That is an astounding picture--what seven years ago, talk about shaving taking the years off!

Nope, I'm with you on this. I never regretted not scraping my skull sooner. What stands out for me was that as soon as I had shaved the first time I knew that I had come to the right place. My head felt so much better than it did when I had a full(?) head of hair. I could break a good sweat working out and never get the sweaty/itchy scalp syndrome.

As far as the future goes I can't see myself ever being anything but sly.

Yep, me too. Kept it for at least a year too long before I saw the light
