Finally Bought a STR8 Razor for the Face!
« on: March 15, 2007, 06:14:56 AM »
Well guys, I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Beginner's Kit 5/8 Dovo STR8 razor, paddle strop, mug, soap, etc...for my face shave...

I've totally had it with velcro on my face by noon!

I love the HeadBlade for the old dome, but for face shaving, I've gone through ALL the newfangled double & triple, cartridge Razors, and frankly for me they're ALL just an expensive waste of time. I guess as a last resort travel shave they're OK, but for my two cents worth, NONE of them give me a long term close smooth face shave like a good "old fashioned" barber shop style shave that you get from a STR8!

Anyone out there using a STR8 razor? I'd like to get some tips and hear some of your experiences.

I noticed some message traffic from guys on this forum who even use a STR8 for the dome!

Wow now that takes major BALLS!!!!!

All the best guys!!!

Tony

Hey Tony, I love shaving with a straight, on my face.  As I said in another post, I've never seen a razor sharp enough to shave with straight out of the box, it will more then likely need honed up.

There are some folks that do it, it takes practice.  Go here for more info then you'll ever need about straight razors.

I headshave with a straight, you use it like a comb basically. Wedges work best for me. The trickiest part is going against the grain.

go to straightrazorplace.com, they'll tell you all you need to know (I'm a member there as well) if you haven't bought it from one of the members there but in a store somewhere then your razor probably still needs to be sharpened though. (though when you say dovo beginners kit I'm thinking Tony Miller's kit, they come shave ready :)  )
