I Finally Started P90X

After promising myself several times that I would start the program, I finally began last night. I had received P90X as a gift back in October but never found the "right time" to start. Yesterday, I stepped on the scales at 226 and decided it was time to do something.
For several years I had been a regular at the gym lifting weights about 3 times per week. Nothing drastic but a decent workout for a 45 year old. I was pleased with my progress. Beginning in November 2009, my attendance at the gym started to slide and my waistline expand. So after putting it off for 3 months, I got started.
I thought I was in pretty good shape. I took it easy on round 1 (or so I thought) as suggested on the video. HOwever, when round 2 started I realized that I was farther out of shape than initially thought. I must be honest and state I could only finish about 1/2 of the second round. I was smooth spent. My arms were quivering and was a little light headed. It passed quickly and I went to bed.
Since I don't have access to pull up bars, I am doing this with the stretch band as shown on the video. I realize this makes it easier but it gives me more reps so it is a benefit. I am not as sore as I thought I would be. Lower back is pretty tight though.
For those of you that are familiar with P90X, I am doing it without following the diet that they recommend. In my area, I can't get all of those foods so I am trying to follow the program on my own diet. My schedule does not allow me to do the protien drinks, etc throughout the day. I am trying to limit fried foods and take a generally healthier approach to my meal planning.
If any of you have ever started this program, I would love to hear your feedback and any suggestions you have. I hope I am dedicated to the program for the full 90 days. Wish me luck.

Good luck! I've had many, many friends start it. It's definitely a time commitment.
Hang in there, you can do it.

Thanks for the support. Outside of the physical part, I am also concerned about the time commitment. I have 2 kids in sports, wife, work, etc so I will be flexible in my scheduling. I will keep you updated.

Please think about the time you spend on physical exercise as part of your real obligation to your wife and family--if you're not healthy, well--you get the picture.

I have a friend that actually gets up an hour earlier now every morning. He gets up at 4:30 am to get his P90X in. YIKES! No wonder he goes to bed at 9:30!!

Hey, I resemble that remark, except I go to the gym. And, when I get there the line has formed. This morning, I had to readjust my workout because there were so many people usng the equipment .

I did Day 2 last night - Plyometrics. What a wicked workout. It goes for 60 minutes but I was spent at 30. Did the best I could. Hamstrings were killing me this morning.
I got up an hour earlier today to do Day 3 because I have to be gone tonight. It was shoulders-biceps-triceps. Was able to finish the set but used lighter dumbbells than what I probably should have. Just wanted to finish the workout.
I can feel some stiffness and soreness in my legs and chest. I hope that is a good sign. Excitement is still going for me on this. Hope I can hang tough for the full 90 days.
Wish me luck.
SAint C - you are exactly right. I decided if I could improve my health it would be a benefit to not only me but my family. Hopefully I will be healthier and happier which will translate to more quality time with family. Also, it is not bad to set a good example for the kids.

Wednesday was Day 4 of P90X. Let's be honest. I can barely move. My legs are sore from my shins to my waist. The plyometrics were an absolute beast. It hurts to sit down, stand up, walk, lay down or get up. Other than that, all is well. Wednesday night I did 40 minutes of Yoga - out of the suggested 90 minutes.
I have never done yoga before. I always thought it was a goofball exercise. Let me now adjust my thinking. It is incredibly difficult. I found it difficult to clear my mind as they suggest. I was working on my breathing and trying to stay balanced. I must admit that I am by nature a very stiff person - I have never been able to touch my ankles much less my toes without bending my knees. I am hopeful this will help my flexibility.
Today ( Thursday morning) I can tell that the yoga got rid of some of the soreness. My office mates tell me I look like I can walk naturally again as opposed to how I was doing it yesterday.
I did legs and chest this morning. The chest workouts I was able to finish. The legs were another hurdle. I did the best I could but could not finish the workout. Hopefully I am getting stronger. Looking forward to a rest day. However, I am committed to doing my 90 days and see how it goes.
Thanks to all the encouragement received on here and thru PM's.

Steve... How goes the P90x? Sticking with it?
I started a little over a week ago myself, however, I am doing the "Lean" program for the first 90 to get some weight off and get comfortable with the various exercises. Week 1, I was the same as you with just crazy soreness from head to toes... but I will say this, I already feel a difference it my body and the second week I'm able to "bring it" a little more...
Only 11 1/2 weeks to go before starting Classic!

Wassup p90x brothas !
I havent completed it myself. Did P90 myself which is what I recommended to sooner steve. Still a good workout but not as intense and someties discouraging as P90x. Where you at steve ??
Anyway..had to stop working out for a month....popped out a rib in my back and that set me back but I am back and hitting it hard. Im partial to doing P90 cardio stuff along with this workout to build up my traps/neck a bit.
