Moisturizing and cleaning questions
« on: January 10, 2010, 12:21:45 AM »
I was hoping you sly folks could answer a few questions that have come up in my mind. I have searched and couldn't seem to come up with an answer.

First off I had my second shave today, against the grain this time. Had to go over a few spots multiple times and for the most part its really smooth. I love it. Definetly something to get used to. Its freezing here in NY and everytime I put my hands on my head its like ice haha. Anyways, I do not notice any razor burn which does surprise me, especially since my neck always gets it. My scalp was dry after wards and flaky. I usually use bald guyz gel a few times a day. Is there every TO many times to moisturize? I also just put jergans natural on my head to get rid of the white and now its extremely oily to the touch but I guess thats expected. I am going to wash my head before I go to bed later. Which brings me up with my second question, Is washing your bald head many times a day alright? With this lotion I want to wash it right now but I know that would defeat the purpose haha.

My routine as of right now:
Shower, Apply sensitive skin face scrub, apply shave secret, apply gillette sensitive skin gel, shave against the grain and all over, head under cold water, ice cube, apply bump patrol, apply gillete sensitive skin aftershave, then finally apply bald guyz gel.

My routine hopefully soon when the goodies come:
Shower, apply sensitive skin face scrub, apply shave secret, apply headslick, shave with headblade, cold water, ice cube, apply headclear, apply headlube glossy.

Does the headlube glossy act like my aftershave does? And do you apply it hours after the first application if your scalp gets dry?

I am terribly sorry for so many questions. Just didn't want to make multiple topics  :-\

I really appreciate, you guys have been great!

No need to apologize for asking questions. There's two kind of headlube's, the original and glossy. I'm not a fan of the regular headlube at all, its greasy and thick and it always burned the hell out of my head after my shave, the glossy is thin and doesn't burn. I like the glossy,I always used them up when I always got samples from headblade. I think a good combo is clearhead and headlube glossy.

Andy-

I have found that for me personally, the less products that I use during and after each shave, the better. I use HeadSlick to shave and BaldGuyz Gel or Nivea Extreme After Shave Balm after shaving. That's it.
Though I love Shave Secret, I found that it breaks me out in certain areas so I had to stop using it.
I'm not a fan of the HeadLube...... it's just too thick for me.

And shaving questions of any kind are always welcomed..............

I think you are doing alot and you will find the right way after experimenting like you are   - -I first use a very warm wash cloth on my head  - -several times    then use  Bald Guyz Gel and leave it on for a minute or so  - - - - then  I shave and I get a real smooth close cut  - -I then use cold water to rinse off and and I get a real shine when it drys - - - - look at my noggin - -shinny as hell - - - -and after 6-7 hours in the day I wash my head again with cold water and I get the shine back    till bed time  - -at bed time I use a heavy amount of Bald Guyz moisture Gel and that is it  - - - - -What you see is the way I look

I like Gold Bond Ultimate restoring with CoQ10. It has an initial sting which lasts only for a few seconds which, in my injured mind, actually feels good. It also has a nice smell and leaves a little bit of shine though not as much as the Head Lube Glossy.

Wash your scalp two or three times a day--no hair to help absorb the natural oils any more!  I use a mild anti-bacterial soap, Cuticura.  Change your pillowcase at least weekly--again scalp oil goes straight to the pillowcase now.  If you develop red spots, try any anti-acne astringent.  Keep it clean, keeps it clear.

Probably you will have to try out several products before you'll find the perfect ones for you. Also your skin has to adjust to be shaved so there might be a change in its reaction as well.

Personally, I'm with mikekoz that it is best to use as little products as possible.
For me it is HeadSlick and from the Yves Rocher Ginseng Actif series a face scrub, an after shave balm and (in the evening) a moisturizing lotion.

If your skin tends to be dry I think it is better to not wash it too often and to use only nondetergent, neutral-pH products.

I use only 3 products on my head.  I have whatever moisturizing bar or liquid soap in the shower,  then i use barbersol with aloe, and ater the shave i got the 100% pure aloe with no additives for after the shave.  Not only does it keep it moist and supple but it gives it one hell of a shine i have never had before.  Hope this helps and congrats on shaving the dome clean.

I also get flakes,I'll use apricot scub and a little shampoo before I shave. Then wash off shave gel with luke warm water dry with towel and apply Bald Guys moisture gel. Then during the day just use wash rag and warm water. To much soap only dries your scalp.Like some have said less is better.
