Cheap People

If there's one thing I can't stand it's tight assed people. I know people that are so cheap even though they are loaded with dough.I can't understand that. They won't even treat you to a lousy cup of coffee.I may not be the richest guy in the world but I'm very generous with my family and friends.But these cheap people really disgust me.Anybody else here feel the same way?

That's why they are loaded with dough!!    Seriously, almost every rich person that I know that didn't inherit the money is the biggest tight wad, but I can understand that because they truly know what they can do with the money they didn't spend.  I do think there are extreme tight wads that over do it and are more greedy than tight, like the ones that don't chip in enough when eating out with a group - those are the guys that piss me off.

I know what you mean, I work with someone who would squeeze a nickel until the buffalo s**t.   I enjoy helping people out and if it's cash that does the trick, so be it.

I'm somewhere in between. Although I do reasonably well in my profession, I really don't live an extravagant lifestlyle. I subscribe to the "Automatic Millionaire" theory (a simple, good book about getting your financial affairs in order). I'm more about getting a good deal without skimping on things that I want. My wife and I are both cut from the same cloth. Our financial priorities lie with our kids. We don't go out very often cuz you're immediately down $40 with a babysitter (which does put a strain on the relationship a bit). We do a lot of things as a family.

That being said, we do donate to charity and are very generous with our time (school, youth sports, city library). But you're right about people being out & out cheap. When we were down in Vega$ a few weeks ago, we had a table of 17 for dinner. Unbeknownst to me, someone had asked that the wait staff split the bill based on table location. That was fine, but when it got down to it, the other half of the table essentially bailed and some people were counting sodas & beers.  I threw in an extra $20 just to get the f**k out of there. It was actually quite embarassing and unnecessary.

I like tipping generously...

'specially with a little buzz when closing the bar tab.  If the guy/gal has been friendly and conscientious....sometimes I'll leave a 30% or 40% tip.

These servers/bartenders, what not....that's how they make their living.

I have a client who is a server at a popular breakfast place here in Denver.  She serves John Elway frequently....

not only was this guy a superstar....but now he owns half the car dealerships in Denver.

A few years back, some of the guys I worked with at a Toyota dealer decided a few of us would have our own Christmas party since the dealership skipped out on us that year. We went to one of the nicer steakhouses in town and had a great time and a good meal. When it was time to pay the bill, we just passed the ticket around the table and everyone pitched in. I was just a lowly grease monkey at the time, and didn't make a whole lot of dough. Unfortunately I was the last one to see the ticket and ended up pitching in a little extra to cover the tab. The next Monday at work though, one of the guys that went out with us slipped me a $20 and apologized that I had to cover some of the other stuff. That was not necessary, but very cool of him.

Oh yeah, I've been around a few of "those" type of people in my life.  I like the way Paul put it.  That was the funniest thing I've ever heard.  I've actually got a few of these people in my own family.  I don't let them get to me too much though.  It's actually entertaining to me.  I have a blast listening to these people talk about how to strech that last penny to the max.  Don't get me wrong, I know there are people that are in certain situations that need to watch every dollar and I totally understand.

I'm with pburke and pigpen for the most part though.  I've always been labeled as "Mr. Nice Guy" with any of my friends or any group I've been around.  I'm the type of person that will go without so someone else can be happy.  I don't know? It just gives me satisfaction to help someone else out.  I've just always thought that's how things should be.  In my mind the world would be a whole lot better. Schro had a very good idea also about charity.  Nothing makes me feel better than to give to a worthy cause even if it's my last dollar.

Nothing worse than a tightwad. Can't bring it with you when you die, and you won't use it on yourself...so share! I make a decent living for a guy my age, mostly due to being single and not having a woman to drain me- but most of my friends are the opposite. I like having fun and going out, but when someone doesn't have the cash to enjoy themselves then it brings down the mood. Everyone having a good time is worth spending some money in my book. After all, isn't the meaning to life all about having a smile on your face till you leave this place? Run yourself into the ground.

Wow I can't believe that little old me is normally a better tipper than some millionaires.

I am not an overly generous person but I'm not a tight wad either.  Spaceape, been in that situation and agree wholeheartedly.  I've picked up all or most of the tab so that my broke-at-the-time friends could join me in some good times and they've done the same for me.  Life's good!

Last year a little old lady came around collecting donations for the Canadian Cancer Society and asked if I could donate.  So I invited her in and explained that I couldn't give a lot but I'd do what I could.  As she was making out the receipt, I was making out the check and when she got to the amount space, I handed her a check for $100.00.  Her eyes nearly popped right out of her head and she exclaimed "Holy Christ!".      Then she went on to tell me that most people only give her $5 - $10. 
We live in an area wealthy with/from oil.  Shameful

I can't believe those stars are such cheap asses. Lots of them lack ettiquite and social skills. They think because they're famous that they could do or say anything they want.And that Kirsten Dunst smelling like that.She probably didn't wash under her damm arms.

I can't believe Bill Cosby!     I mean he's so into kids I guess that makes him seem like a kind and caring person.  Not to mention where he came from.  $3!  I tip three bucks when the bill is only $10!  I tip based on service.  I once tipped $20 on a $12 meal.  I came in right at closing time, hadn't eaten all day and there were no more restaurants going to be open until morning on that stretch of highway.  I told the waitress the situation and she gave me a menu, brought me a coffee and within 10 minutes I was eating and it was real good too.  So when I paid the bill, I paid with plastic but gave her a $20 and thanked her for being so understanding.
