Thinking of going sly at 19...

Hey, so I am a 19 year old college student. I havent really seen anyone around campus with a shaved head. I was thinking about doing it today but there are a few problems I can see happening. I think my face shape/structure might not go well with the shaved look since my face is real long. I feel like everyones gonna think I have cancer or am doing chemo. I am really tall but really skinny as well (6'3 and 155 pounds). Most guys who seem to look good sly are generally buff. Idk, what do you guys think? I attached a few pictures of myself at the bottom. I am also worried because a lot of guys I see with a bald head also have facial hair and I will never be able to grow any. Even my dad cannot grow a mustache or beard no matter how hard he tries. Thanks in advance for opinions and comments!

Why are you considering going sly? your hair looks like it's in good shape to me. I think it could look good on you, being able to grow decent facial hair is just a bonus, and you can always get to the gym and get buff if you think it will suit you more that way.
Give it a try. I'm 19 by the way, and none of my friends have a shaved head, but don't worry as we hit out twenties, more and more people start losing their hair and shaving there head.

Hmmmm... The most honest opinion I can give you is "Go ahead and give it a try." Expect a little shock from those close to you, and don't let their opinions influence you too much. On the bright side, if you try it and truly hate it, you can always grow it back!

You'll never know what it looks like without doing it. It doesn't look like your balding, so I'd say give it a shot as it will only take a couple of months to grow back. What's your reason for wanting to shave?

Yea it certainly isnt starting to recede or anything like that. I just kind of want something new and fresh. It shouldnt take long to grow back out if I dont like it so thats a plus. I normally shave my head with a 2 all the way around. Maybe Ill start with a 1 all around and see what it looks like and then make the decision.

Taking it shorter and shorter in stages is a good strategy to minimize the shock value to both yourself and your friends and loved ones.

Alright so I just shaved my head to a 2 all around. Its really short but I like it. It actually seems shorter than when I had done a 2 all around last year. I still am really scared to go through and actually shave it all off though. I may just keep the 2 all around. Everyone can see my scalp now even with the hair there since its so short. What do you guys think? Go sly or keep it the way it is?

You look fine w/ a 2, and that's what it's all about anyway being satisfied for yourself. You definately have no indications of mpb that would drive a different solution. But you're young, and by the time you're 50 you may have some mpb, maybe not. It's your life, enjoy it.

Looks good. Perhaps you should stick with it for some time and then go even shorter if you want.
I think people were more surprised when I started to buzz my hair short than 3 months later when I shaved it all off.

Yea true. My parents and aunt dont really like it and keep telling me it is too short. I told them if I hear another complaint then I am shaving it all off and needless to say, they now love it haha. Thanks for the advice guys

Short is a matter of perception. It seems radically short to you now, but if you go shorter and keep it that way for a while, suddenly a #2 won't seem so short after all.
Keep it at a #2 for a while and when you're fully comfortable with that, give #1 a try. It will only take a week to grow back to a #2 from a #1, so it's a pretty low-risk proposition. Once you're used to being at #1 for a while, it's a lot easier to go completely bald, because again, it only takes a week to go from completely bald to #1, and two weeks to go from completely bald to #2. The worst that can happen is that you'll have to put up with being bald for a week. It's a small price to pay, because even if you don't like it, there's a tremendous feeling of satisfaction that comes with knowing that you had the guts to actually shave off all of your hair.
Think about it for a while. My advice is to go for it when you think you're ready. If you don't, you'll always wonder about it.

Thats very good advice razor x. I actually never thought about it that way. I have a job interview in a week and once I get the job(all about confidence) then I think I am going to go to a 1 and then take a razor to it. In less than a month, it will be back to a 2. I will def keep you guys updated, thanks for the help with the decision. I hope I really end up liking it and stay sly!
