Tanning Lotion??

Hi there, I'm new to the forum.  I shaved my head last summer & I liked the look of it...the only issue is that I'm a redhead w/ freckles, so when I shave my head, there is a difference in tone.  Now I've read that it takes about 2 weeks to tan your head, so that it matches the rest.  However, I don't particularly want freckles all over the top of my skull as the one's on my face are pretty even, and not too noticeable.  Now I'm just wondering if I should use a tanning lotion & if it will even out my skin tone? And if I can use them for an extended period of time.  Does anyone know or have any information or experience with such things?  Thank you very much for your time.

I just took off my hair system a week ago and had a bad case of tan-line-itis.    Based on a few suggestions on the forums I went and picked up a Jergens product.   I picked up the express body lotion and after a couple of days the tan line was gone.   Here's a link to the product that I'm using --> http://www.jergens.com/Our_Collection/Product_Detail.asp?ProductID=33      It goes on easily -- isn't greasy -- and absorbs pretty quickly.    I'm going to continue to use it as I like the tanned look -- especially in Portland Oregon where the sun doesn't shine for 9 months out of the year.

I think this would take some experimentation because from what I hear different product work differently on different people.  On some people these products turn the skin orange, while sometimes they seem to work well.  I think you need to try a small amount of a few to small spots of skin and see how they affect you.

But if you find a match, wouldn't it be difficult to blend the artifically tanned scalp to your untanned face, ears, and neck?  It would probably take a small miracle to find a product that tans you exactly as your skin tans, but isn't the reason some freckle caused by their skin's inability to tan properly?

The color these products produce does not give your skin UV resistance like a real tan, so thtat means the sun will still trigger your skin to freckle.

As you can see from my avatar pic, I'm of the blond/redhead persuasion as well. Yep, I even have freckles on the back of my dome. (Had no idea they were there until I shaved my head.)

Anyway, to lessen the ghostly glow of my freshly shaved dome, and still get adequate protection from the sun, I've been using Jergens Natural Glow Healthy Complexion. It's a facial moisturizer with 20 SPF UVA protection that also gradually creates a pretty natural looking color. It's available for Fair to Medium Skin Tones so the gradual increase of color on the dome is not as dramatic (or obvious) as some of the other formulas.

And I use a little on my face and neck as well to create a nice blend.

Thanks pdxtodd & ozzie!! I picked up some jergens natural glow & tested it on my arm.  As the top side has freckles, & the bottom side does not (& is pretty ghostly white)...A few hours later it's already started to blend.  (even though I know it takes several days to get the full effects).   I guess the secret is to blend the whiter part of my skull w/ the face by using a little on the face & neck (but not as much) as well...I probably won't be shaving my head again until the summer, but I'll be sure to keep you posted.  Thanks a lot for your knowledge.  P.S. I dig the ginge in your beard ozzie.
