thinking my haircut was an obstacle
« on: December 01, 2009, 11:26:35 AM »
Here I am down to a no guard buzzcut.  I just had an interview for a big box store as a part time seasonal stocker.  At first I never thought my new haircut would be a problem getting a job.  I always thought it was because I was fat. LOL  Not that would stop me from applying.

Well, several people convinced me that it was an issue and I let it grow for 3 days.  Not really much growth.

To my surprise, my hair and weight were not an issue.  I guess all my previous experience made me "overqualified".  It went something like this, "We think you are overqualified for the position."
"I know I am overqualified, but that means I meet your requirements for the job, right?"
"Yes, you do meet our minimum requirements."
"Great, do I get the job?"
"Yes, let me send you to HR."

So I am just waiting on my drug test results and background check to clear.  THANK GOD coffee is not an illegal drug. LOL

I really think going short has given me more confidence.  Getting everyone ready to for the final step.

Well done on getting hired!  I like your forthright approach.  O0  I'm just curious who these people were who convinced you that being Sly would be an issue.  Did they have anything to do with the employer, or just meddling friends/relatives?

Good answer, great result O0.  Too bad no one had a camera to catch his expression when you gave your answer.  A lot of people hear that these days, hopefully many will be able to assert themselves, bald or not, and accomplish their goals.
