Advent calendar

I haven't had an Advent calendar for many years but this year my sister gave me one.
So my question to you is:
Do you have an Advent calendar? And if so, what's in it?
Mine is filled with tea bags.

I haven't ever heard of an Advent "calendar". A wreath, yes, with five candles, one for each Sunday in Advent, and one in the center for Christmas day. Is this a German tradition?

Mainly for children, it's like a count-down to Christmas. It is usually built from cardboard and has 24 doors. Starting with the 1st of December, each day you open a door and find something like a candy or a toy. There are also versions for adults, filled with small bottles of liquor or condoms.
It is also common to make them yourself and fill it with the stuff you want.

I see them all the time here (in Chicago) at this time of year. All the German & Polish markets have them, usually with chocolates in the days of the month.

They are common here in Pa.. But beware if you buy one with chocolates in it. This is waxy, nasty chocolate looking stuff. Even my daughter, an admitted chocolate lover, will not eat it.

Hi! hope you've all missed me!
We have advent calendars over here: they're very common. They usually have chocolates in them, or coloured pictures of various Christmassy things. They are very popular and are in practically every shop!
By the way, it's good to be back after a $*£*£! few months!

The one we have has figurines in it representing the figures that played roles during the season.
It is most definitely geared toward children!
We have a wreath also that we are using.

We have an advent wreath. When the kids were younger, we started the tradition of lighting a candle each Sunday for the four weeks before Christmas, and the large one on Christmas day. They are gone now, but my wife and I keep the tradition alive each year. We are behind schedule this year as we haven't bought any candles yet.

When I think of an Advent calendar it makes me think of the move "Christmas Vacation" with Chevy Chase. A real classic. But I've never used one myself.
