Don't let perfect...
« on: November 11, 2009, 10:18:25 PM »
"Don't let perfect be the enemy of getting better!"

I heard this quote today and it applies to so many areas of life.  We often get too focused on trying to be perfect instead of just getting better than we were the previous day.

People are not limited by the circumstance that they are born in. They are limited by the size of their dreams. Show them that their dreams can have no limits and in turn their accomplishments can be limitless.

Good one Tyler, makes sense, especially since "nobody's perfect". We need to take it a little at a time.  O0

Very good point, Tyler.   Establishing achievable goals, as opposed to reaching for perfection, likely results in more improvement.

Very nice...... especially since someone pointed out to me recently that if there were other things I wanted to do in life I couldn't work toward being perfect.

Agreed.

I believe the saying originates or was first formulated by Voltaire, "Le mieux est l'ennemi du bien."  The better is the enemy of the good.  It applies to so much in our lives and would be well remembered by many of the leaders from all aspects of our society, as well and the general public.

Great, thought provoking quote

Absolutely agree.  As a famous man once said "perfection is a road block in the way of progress".

I don't think the quote is referring to people being perfect, yet it's referring to people often don't get better because they are to worried about getting it perfect before they move forward.

I learned this while in my teens.  I had an older friend to whom I looked to for various direction in my life.  Somewhat of a mentor.  One day he simply asked me when I thought I would be ready to attempt certain dreams/ goals I had.  My flimsy reply was... (I cant remember, but it was certainly not soon).  He simply replied and said that:

"If you wait to be ready, you will never be ready".  This has had a tremendous and profound effect in my life.  Thank you Philip van Niekerk...

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble, when you're perfect in every way...
If I'd known I was gonna live this long, I'd have taken better care of myself.
