Last week I posted about my friend that hit a deer while on his motorcycle.
Well this AM on the way to work I almost hit deer TWICE within about a mile.

The first one was a huge buck, looked like a dman elk he was so big, that jumped out of a corn field that was right next to the road. I hit the bakes hard..... the rear tire swished left and then back to the far right..... before I felt it grab and straighten out.
I missed that bastard by about 6 feet.
About a mile up the road a small doe jumped up out of a ditch and landed smack in front of me....I missed her by about a foot.

Rough ride in this AM......

Side note for the guys with bikes...... that "elk" was moving awfully slow but I blew my horn, the amazing Mini-Beast II, and that bastard hauled ass across that road.
If you're still running a stock horn I highly recommend checking out the Mini-Beast II.....easy to install, looks amazing and has 129 decibels of pure sound.

Must be the season, my wife came upon an accident scene yesterday between a deer and a car. The car lost.

Maybe you should trade in your hog and ride a deer to work.

Would Deer Whistles work on the bike ? ... I know some who swear by them ... and some who do not .

39 degrees this AM when I left the house. Not bad at all with decent gear.......60 mile ride.

I have a couple of friends that have them and swear by them...... me?.... not so sure..........

I've heard that those whistles are bogus, but I have 2 (not 1, but 2  :*)) !!!) on my bike.  They came with the bike (honest  ;) ) and I left them on as a conversation piece, along with most all of the customized chrome on my bike.
But seriously, if you were a deer, and you heard a whistle coming down the road, would it scare you off the road?  Maybe if it's obnoxious enough, but the sound of my H-D is usually obnoxious enought for the casual non-biker listener  ;D , so you could use them, but I wouldn't bet my life (or my bike) on them.  You still have to take your time and drive defensively...or move to where the deer and the antelope DON'T play, like New York City, or the desert.  Of course, then there are other issues....  :o

Yeah, the deer are out in profusion here too, and causing havoc.  My 22 year old nephew totalled his car a few weeks ago when a deer ran out in front of him just a few miles from my house.  He ended up rolling the car four times but thankfully got nothing more than a few bruises.

I went to the firehouse last night, and some of the guys were saying about a wreck the other day on I95 between a VW Beetle and a deer. Apparently both lost. The Beetle was totaled, and the deers back end was vaporized.   :P

I'm just glad you are able to post on here this morning Koz.  Coming up on a dear in a car is scary, but coming up on one on your bike is crap your pants scary.

I haven't had a close call with a deer, however, I hit an armadillo on my bike last year.  Fortunately I didn't lay it down.  But  I did get airborne.  Stopped at the next town for new shorts.
