I myself started going bald at age 18. By age 30 the top of my head and halfway down the back was all but gone. The only thing left there now when it grows is light peach fuzz. I've maintained a closely shaved head over the past 7 years or so. In fact I don't believe I have been to a hair salon since I was 16. Over the past year I started doing the razor and shaving cream thing. I must say I rather enjoy it. Its almost a spiritual thing to shave your head with a razor. I usually get to it at least once a week. Im trying to do it about every 3 days or so. Even though I have been shaving my head regularly for years I have clung to a baseball cap like a blankie. I never leave the house without one. Without it I have felt naked. Its kinda like leaving the house without your pants. You're self conscious and feel a slight draft! I don't always wear one at home. I have a live in GF of 9 years that is used to my shaved head. Its tough to go through the shock and aw faze with your friends and coworkers however. I've actually went into work without a hat the past few days. Its going rather well aside from the rude comments from few people. Some people just like to bust your balls. However, some people are just very bothered by a shaved head. Its amazing how rude some people can be. One person in particular said "You need to put a hat on... your bothering people!". I explained to her that she was rude and she was the only one that was so bothered. She also mentioned that only black people should have shaved heads. Im not really sure why certain people are bothered so much. It's quite obvious that this woman is an arrogant a-hole! Im not going to let these people get to me and continue to go without my hat for the week. Im sick of wearing it everyday. Not to mention I have a big fat head and most hats pinch! Lol! Just wanted to say hello to everyone out there. I appreciate this site and its encouraging to read everybody's stories. Thanks!

Jessman, welcome to sbg. One of the things you could do to help with the urge to wear your hat is to try shaving your head everyday for 30 days.

Welcome here, Jessman!
You look very fine with your shaved head; be proud of it and let it shine.
Your shine brings light in the word.

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys forum, Jess. You've got the look and the attitude of a confident Sly Guy.
Ditch the hats for a while and show off the great dome.

Welcome, you have a great story. About those hats, I too have a big melon and hats are generally uncomfortable since the largest is 7 7/8. Like the guys said, ditch them, you obviously have a strong character, and the clean scalp just brings it out. And, as Tyler said, try shaving daily for 30 days. My bet is that you and the gf will like the smooth, clean dome as a daily affair.
Great to have you here.

Sounds like the woman is an absolute moron and you appear to have handled it well.
Welcome Jess!

elcome to the forum jessman. I too consider the whole shaving routine as somewhat spiritual. While my wife is completely fine with the sly look, when I try to explain how enjoyable the shave process is she just rolls her eyes and says, "I know, you've told me a thousand times before"! We're glad you've found us. Post often.

Hello Jessman, welcome to the site. In every walk of life there are the people who find fault with everything. I pity these poor souls. Instead of this woman (not Lady) remarking on your fine head, she should work on her people skills. Blow her off and walk proud!

Jessman, since your head has mainly been "under cover" so to speak, and hasn't seen the light, it probably needs some sun. Ditch the hat, and take
Tyler's advice. Try shaving daily. I'd also apply a moisturizer like Jergen's Natural Glo to give some immediate color to your palid dome.
