A-symmetrical hairline. Should I shave it all off?
« on: September 27, 2009, 04:51:02 PM »
Hey guys, I'm new here and I'm lookin' for some advice.

I'm 16 and I've always had an a-symmetrical hairline. I didn't really realise until very recently how bad it was. It's also pretty high too. The only thing that's stopped me from going completely bald is the shape and size of my head. It's not HUGE, but it is bigger than average. I need to know whether I'd suit the look or not.

I've wet my hair down, so it's as close as possible to my head.

What do you think? yay or nay?

Cheers  :)

it seems ok for the time being. Give it a year or two.

I agree with Marty, It looks good for now. But take the plunge and go bald. I guarantee you won't be sorry.
I'm smooth (my head is anyway) If you aren't smooth figuratively speaking, let everyone know that you are literally smooth on top.

Bald is an edgy look for you young guys.  Don't worry about your head size.  I'm 5'7" tall and have a 7 3/8" hat size.  Not huge, but on the big side.

If you go Sly post a picture.

Mate !  Let nature take its course if MPB is in your genetics.  IF not, just keep it cropped short and concentrate on your future and girls, etc.   ---Stasiu

Well more information would be needed.  Have you googled up the Norwood/Hamilton mpb charts, looks like you could be at a three, possibly.  If so, symmetry comes into play--I've been there.  Have you developed a "hole" in the back, has the "front" begun to separate from the rest, if so, is it equal on both sides of the head?  Well, for me it was yes to #1 & 2, and no to #3.  I also have a huge head, 7 7/8.
I waited too long, I couldn't do the buzz stuff, and I should have done it 5 even ten years before.
It would appear that at some point in your future you will be bald because of mpb, I would just do it.  If it doesn't suit you now, it will grow out to a length you're happy with and you can maintain while the process goes on.  You can't control going bald you can control how you go bald.

I'm sure the problem isn't balding. I've had this hairline for my whole life, and it hasn't changed. I saw a pic of myself in school when I was 8, and it was exactly the same. Crappy genetics.

Hello DD, glad you came to us for advise.  What you usually get here is to shave it slick.  I'm afraid I must agree.  Evidentually you are considering doing so.  Go for it and like it has been said-" It will grow back".

Yeah, I can give it a shot then. I'll wait till I've got a break from college.

Welcome to the Forum DD!

If you're only 16 and in college you are already smarter than most of us...... so you no doubt know what to do.
Give it a try and you'll probably love the look.

As for head size................. well I thought I had a huge melon until SaintC spoke up!!!!

Welcome Dawkins, I say you should stick with a tight buzz for now. You're a young guy and have time before mpb starts to progress.
Enjoy what hair you have left, and experiment with different looks.   O0

This might seem like an odd question, but would it be possible for any of you guys to measure the width of your heads? I've been searching for hours to find the average, with no luck. I just want to take into consideration the size of my head, and whether it's bigger than average, or normal. Cheers.

Your hair will grow back, dude. Shave it. I'm 25 and have been shaving my head since 21. I get good reactions and a FEW "why did you do that." LOL

Have fun! :)
