I often try to set aside at least 24 hours a week where I don't use anything with a microchip or that has any electrons flowing through it.  No telephone, no cell phone, no computer, no television, no lighting fixtures, no microwave, no car.  Just me, the dog, the porch and a good book and maybe time spent with friends and neighbors. Even my watch is analog and self winding, but I leave it on the nightstand.  I try to throw out the concept of time and technology and stop being rushed to move from one thing to the next.

It is harder to do than you think.  You open that refrigerator and a light comes on.  It takes focus for the entire avoidance of electricity.  But if you succeed, you feel oddly rewarded.  It gives me the break I need to be able to go back to the office on Monday and spend 60+ hours dealing with computer networks and user issues.

I will regret saying this, but....your clothes were probably made by a computer.  LOL

I only buy close made by small children in Haiti which are then smuggled into the US by rowboat and dropped off at my door.  I find the stitching is much tighter that way and the salty ocean air makes the fabric oh so soft.  :)

But the point is for ME not to use any electricity for that period.  Aside from occassional static, I can succeed quite well.

OK, put the mouse down, back away from the keyboard and practice the deep breathing exercise with me, while saying "cool, blue seas".   :*))

We have to learn how to embrace technology and not let it run our lives.  Right HAL?  HAL?  "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that for you....!" **  :*)) :*))
