;)Howdy all. My name is Topher from Stillwater Minnesota. I've been lurking on your site for about a month now (really good info here.) I started lurking the very evening I first went Sly. Let me tell you my story, (it might sound familiar to some, but here goes..) I have always hated my hair, except in college when it was down to my a$$ ( that was years ago, mind you, but I digress..) I was receding in the front, with a bald spot at the back. I needed a haircut so went to the local barber shop. I asked him what choices I had. He said "combover". When I woke up from my fainting spell he mentioned "shave it" So, I went home and asked my wife if she would buzz it off for me. She was reluctant, but after talking to her friends whom also cut their husbands hair, she agreed. I went straight to the shower and shaved it ALL off. She loves it sly, and so do I. I did need to promise her, in writing no less, that I would never ever ever ever again grow a moustache. But that's another story for another day.

Great story. Lots of us identify. Save for the moustache. I can't claim I ever struggled with a moustache decision.

neither have I - but it's what the rest of the country thinks we sound like.
Stillwater is a beautiful town...but watch out if the lift bridge to WI goes up during rush hour!

Welcome Topher- so glad you joined our group. You are lucky that your wife likes the look. She didn't say anything about a goat--

I am in the Fridley/Roseville area. Used to live in Alexandria and I can tell you that up there, I heard A LOT of the colloquialisms. "Yeah, sure. Youbetcha!" But the one that always drove me nuts was "Oh, for funny." Let's not even mention the misuse of the word borrow. "Can you borrow me that pen?" "Yeah, sure. Youbetcha!" Oh, for funny.

Welcome, you are very lucky to have a supporting spouse. And, you wrote moustache--nothing there about a goatee--
Note: on the local dialect, when Fargo came to the rental stores, I got it, and not knowing what it was about exactly, the teenage kids at that time watched it with us. Was the gore what they noticed, NO, it was, "They talk just like Pat and Dick!" Those are my relatives from Minnesota, St Paul that is.

Although they did turn up the accent--it was really funny to hear that.

Let me qualify. I am not from Minnesota. Lived here for ten years and I catch people with a toned down version of the accent often. Mostly in rural areas. Being from Indiana, everyone up here compliments me on my southern drawl. In return, I compliment them on their Canadian accent. BTW, I can tell you that I do not have the drawl of rural Indiana. But I have many relatives from Kentucky and parts further south that do. I easily slip into it when talking with them.

Sounds like we can soon have our own Minnesota Sly mini-convention.
- Aarrggh can be in charge of entertainment then.
- We'll find a place where the prices are "reasonable" then.
- I'll keep the registration cards orderly by putting rubber "binders" around them then.
- Anyone who wants to join us can throw their shaving gear in the "cubby hole" of their car, step on the "foot feed" to get there as fast as they can, and come join us for the "doings" then.
