fog proof mirror woes...help!
« on: July 23, 2009, 06:49:07 PM »
hi all,

I've been shaving for over a month and will never go back.

However....since I shave in the shower I'm having a problem that's annoying me.  The fogproof mirror I bought at walmart has started to fog a lot.

I've washed it, etc and it's fogging every time I get in the shower.

Thanks!
brett

Mine fogs up everytime.  Just the way it is I think. I just wash it off with my soapy spongey thingy.  I read somewhere about a home remedy to restore the no-fog properties to a fog proof mirror.  I'll google it and see what I can find.

My solution is cheap... spit on the mirror, smear it around, and rinse... sounds gross, but always worked for me when I used one.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

1. Never clean it with anything like windex
2. When it fogs take a little soap on a finger and wipe it off.

That should do it.

run it under warm water for a min to get it to the same temp as the water... done.

The spit thing works too.

Zadro is the company that makes my mirror, just noticed that.  Don't buy it, it's not that good (we have the shower radio/mirror).

How to Make Vinegar Anti-Fog Solution
Instructions and Things You'll Need:

White Vinegar
Hot Water

1.   Clean the surface that you want to put the vinegar anti-fog solution on. It will make it work better if you apply it to a clean surface.
2.   In a large bowl, take 2 ounces of white vinegar  and mix it with 1 quart of hot water.
3.   Put your soft cloth in the solution and wring out the excess. An old t-shirt works great. Wipe the glass, mirror, car window, or whatever surface you want to anti-fog with the vinegar solution and let it dry.
4.   This won't last forever, so when it starts to wear off, reapply the solution and repeat steps 1 through 3 as needed.

Spit works okay, but using a little soap, not enough to make suds, but just to get like a film on there works better than anything else. It's easy, prevents fogging up, and rinses off every time. I would really like to see a "fogless" mirror that actually works.

I use a little bit of dish soap on my glasses in the winter time and wipe it off.  Not enough to leave a film  They stay amazingly clear.  Really helps when coming in from the cold.  Ohterwise my glasses are just as foggy as my vision.  :)
