HB Products - First Impressions
« on: July 21, 2009, 05:51:50 AM »
I have been using the HB Sport for the about 8 out of the 10 shaves I have done so far and it is easy to use and gives a great shave.  Today the rest of my HB products arrived so I did my first full HB shave and here are my impressions:-

Packaging is great, easy to use and keep in the shower.

I used the HeadShed first and was a little surprised at how thin the product is.  I thought it would be quite thick, but it was actually quite runny in consistency.  I wondered if it had been tampered with to be honest as the seal was not fully in place.  It still did the job and will probably mean I can all the product out of the bottle.  Will see what my next purchase is like.   As to how it worked, well is smells great and did give my face and head a really good clean.  It rinsed off really easy as well.   I did not get the HeadWash product, but I now have some on order as I think I would like to use that every day and the scrub maybe a few times a week.

Next I used the Head Slick on my head and face, rubbing well in.  Boy is this stuff slippery!  The razor on my face seemed to glance across the surface, no drag or grip.  On my head it also seemed to be the smoothest shave I have had.  I still think I go over some areas to many times with the HB and I need to fix this as it can lead to some burn.  After a quick touch up around the ears, etc with the Gillette Fusion I was all sorted.  Head was a smooth as silk, not a bristle to be found, very pleased.  I had nicked a few places, but these are usually just pimples which I hope will eventually disappear. A quick dab with the styptic pencil and they are sorted.  Let the head dry naturally why I dry myself off.

Next for the ClearHead, just a small amount in my palm then rubbed over head and face.  %£(O*%^$ - someone could have warned me, boy does this stuff sting, but thankfully not for long.  Not sure what the effect was, nothing to notice except the initial pain, but hopefully there is something to be gained.

After a few minutes I applied some HeadLube Matte, maybe a little to much!  I seemed to have a white head until the product was eventually rubbed in. This product also stings when applied.  Initially it left a clammy feel and I was not to sure it was what I am after.  It has now settled down to be quite comfortable and smooth, looks OK too.  I may have to invest in the Glossy though to see if I like that better.   Not sure if glossy work as well if you have a shadow like I do.  As second application later in the day, using a little less product rubbed on my hands first was much easier to apply and soaked in really quickly, it still stings!

Overall I have had a very close shave and I'm happy with the products.
I also think that as each day goes by I am having less stubble to shave off each morning, if definitely does not feel as rough in the mornings.

So day 10 is now complete, looking forward to reaching day 30 which will be the 10th August.  I will be on holiday then on a cruise around the Baltic, so I may not be able to update you all on progress.   I will be taking all the HB stuff with me and will keep up the good work.   I seem to have the process down to around 15 mins now each morning.

Latest pic of me attached!

I agree with your thoughts - although I have not tried all the HeadBlade products yet.  I did find HeadLube to be too greasy for me...both the matte and glossy.  I just use the Jergens lotion to even out the skin tone - seems the shaved part of my head never does get very tan.

Have a great time on your holiday.  Sounds like the 30-day milestone will just be another day for you Ian...you'll be sly for life.

Parky,

The consistency of the HeadShed is correct.  It is a very thin product, but as you can tell it works great.  I use the HeadWash for daily use and so far I really like it.  It has the consistency of a thick liquid soap and also has a great scent.  It seems to be a very MILD cleaner, however it does the job.

The sting of the HeadClear is normal.  This product will tell you weather or not you had a good shave.  I find the sting to be intense when I am using a slightly dull razor.  But as you said, it only lasts a few seconds.

As for the Head Lube Matte, it too stings my head when applying.  I think this is normal, as I have read in another post on this forum of guys experiencing the same thing.  The Gloss version doesn't sting at all and applies completely different.  It's not nearly as thick as the Matte.  I now use the Baldguyz Moisture Gel.  For me (very oily skin) the Moisture Gel seems to keep the oil at bay on the 'ol noggin.

Overall, I am a huge fan of the Headblade and their products.

The HeadShed does not seem to be like its description on the HeadBlade web site, they describe it so :-

Exfoliator. It's the newest rage. Used as a preshave, this creamy buttery HeadShed really works because of the fine ground walnut shells. Smells like a cross between cookie dough and cocoa butter. Used a few times a week, this will take off dead skin and preps for a great shave. As with all our products you can use this anywhere on the body. A fun body scrub. It rocks!! NOTE: Because of the thick rich texture this product can not be used with the pump. You can try, sure. But it won't work with the pump.

Well the bottle I got was not 'creamy buttery' or 'thick rich texture', it was watery.

I agree... it is NOTHING like they advertise on the website, more of a watery consistency than I thought it would be.  Also, I don't see what would keep it from working in the pumps.

Hello Ian!

My routine is very similar: Shower with hot water, twice a week HeadShed, Headlube, Headblade with double-blades, HeadLube Glossy.

I don't use the Headwash and HeadClear - are not necessary for me.

HeadLube Matte stings for me too and I don't like its viscous consistency. But HeadLube Glossy works very good. I like the shine and it gives a good feeling.

HeadShed has a smell which reminds me of X-mas cookies! It's watery and you must shake the bottle before squeezing. But it works for me.

Good luck and nice shave-moments O0

My routine is exactly the same except I rinse with cold water after shaving then rub an ice cube on my head before towel "pat" drying the dome.  The ice seems to really close the pores on my head and avoid bumps or irritation.  However, I use the Head Gloss.
