Hello Everyone
« on: July 19, 2009, 06:00:53 AM »
Hi Everyone,

I have been lurking on this forum for the last week or so, trying to decide if I should shave my head or not.

I am fortunate to have an abudance of hair, unfortunately though, it is grey and completely unmanageable. I have been grading my hair to a number 1 for the past year, finally yesterday I took the plunge with encouragement from my wife and son, and I am now sporting the sly look.   O:O

I'm not too sure if I'm going to stick with it yet, 28 days left of the 30 day rule to see if I can live with it or not.  My family seem to like it so that's a good start, I just need to get used to it myself now.

One thing I have noticed since going sly is that the top of my head has a lot of indentations and bumps that I have never noticed before ... not even with the grade 1 buzz cut.  :(

I just need to get outside now and get a bit more colour on my dome.  ;D

Welcome to Sly Bald Guys, G8.

The first time you shave your head you do notice every irregularity because you've never seen them that clearly before.  Soon you'll become accustomed to the way your bald head looks.  We all have things about our head shape we're not thrilled with.  Within a week you'll come to love it.  Concentrate on the smoothness  O0

Welcome G8

I think the sly look suits you fine.  Great to hear the family encouraged you and likes it.  That's usually the biggest obstacle.

I remember I had bouts of uncertainty that used to crop up from time to time at first.  It does go away.

Way to go G8.  Welcome to the sly world and the forum.  Having your family behind you can be a great asset to staying sly.  Hang in there and 30 days from now you will wonder why you even thought of not staying sly

Welcome G8! Nice intro and congrats on your new look. If the Family likes it then it has to be a pretty easy decision for you. Keep us posted!

Welcome.  You're EXTREMELY fortunate to have the support and encouragement from your wife and family--would that be true for many others here.
That's really the biggest social issue.  You're going to go through a "Who's that guy in the mirror?" phase too, and other than that you've only got to get in the groove on shaving everyday--and that becomes easier and faster at a very rapid rate.
Enjoy the freedom, and welcome again.

Yes I am fortunate that my wife is incredibly supportive, it does help ... mind you she knows me well enough that when I make my mind up to do something there's no changing it.   ;)

Thanks for the great welcome and words of encouragement guys!

Welcome to SBG's G8, good to have you join us. I will echo the bro's in saying it's a big plus when your family is behind you. That's half the battle won.

Stick with it for the thirty days and I bet you'll be wishing you had done it sooner.

Enjoy the forum.

Welcome.  Glad you have the family support.  That is great.  As for the indentions, they smooth out over time - or at least mine did.

I agree about learning to like the characteristics of your head.  I have a bulge that starts just above my forehead, and at first I wasn't a fan, but now I think it sets me apart.
