NEW HERE , WITH A QUESTION TOO !!

First off ... Hello and well met !

 My name is Gary , and I hail from Phoenix , AZ. I have been shaving my dome for many years off and on and have decided to try an electric for touch-ups at work etc. And no , I have never used an electric before.

 So now the question: I found the recomended Panasonic es8243a for $119 @ Amazon.com , and also found a Panasonic es8249k for $89 at Frys.com. Is one better that the other really, or pretty much the same. Price isn't an issue , but would like the best shave I can get.

I think RED will best be able to help you with this, I think he uses the panasonic linear wet dry and then finishes up with a fusion

Welcome! As a new Sly guy and a new contributor here I must say there is no electric shaver made that will replace the blade in closeness. I have tried. I use a Rolling Razor and the Headblade in combination to get my dome smooth. I also use Bald Guyz Moisturizing Gel as a follow up.

Hey Gary,

The ES8243 (one of the models I have) and the ES8249 both have the new four blade system. 

$89 is a great price for the Panasonic with the HydraClean system, however when I go to Frys.com they don't actually have the item available to ship from the website.  If you know you can go to a store and get one I say go with great haste.

I've been using the ES8043 & the ES8243 for over a year now.  Several of the Sly bros have bought Panasonics recently and all I've heard is great things from them

I can't help you with the electric razor's, that's our man Red's department.

I agree with sellitman as far as not being able to get a good close shave. But if you will be using it for touch-ups, it may just do the trick.

I got my ES8249K at the Fry's here and love it. Anyone who says that an electric can't beat a blade has never tried the Panasonic with the Linear drive blades.

Anyone who's looking at one, trust me, I heartily recommend the ES8249.

So very true. Though I did get a few tender spots around my temples, it worked great. I used a tiny bit of HeadSlick and kept applying a little water as needed.

I picked up the razor on my way home and charged it before heading out to job #2. Took less than an hour to fully charge. While on my 15 minute break I hit the sink and went to work. All said and done it took 10 minutes, so I had 5 minutes to spare.

This was at 5PM. When I awoke to the scream of my alarm this morning (4am) and ran my hand over my head it was still pretty smooth except for a few spots, but i still performed my daily routine as usual and was done in no time. Though I still like the feel of running the HeadBlade over my head, I will definitely continue using this as needed for emergency touch-ups and casual trimming as needed throughout the day.

So in short terms , this razor is awesome !

Thanks Red for the input from your experiences with these razors. Maybe someday I'll go electric and use the others for special occasions. (like their anniversary.)

I have a sly friend who swears by headshaving with his Braun electric razor... I was skeptical but he is always very smooth and says the Braun is all he uses. Go figure. I've never had good luck with an electric razor, even on my face.
