Dry scalp
« on: July 01, 2009, 12:17:37 PM »
I am finding my dry scalp is getting even drier from all the washing and shaving.

I moisturize with the best of them, (using the best products) but moisturizing really seems a stop gap measure.
I works on the symptom, but does nothing to improve a dry skin condition long term.
I have always had dry skin a benefit in teenage years, very few zits, but a hindrance as an adult.

As a result I am not shaving everyday anymore. I shave as much as I can and I might average about 4 out of 5 or even 5 out of 6 days. Sometimes I will do a second shave if I am going out that evening. Or a shave in the evening when I have gone 36 hours, like I might tonight.

But my scalp just seems to need a little rest from all the scrapping and soaping etc...

Just thought I would share.
Eric

Would changing your diet improve anything?
Not trying to be a jokester about it, but maybe there's some type of food or supplement you could try.

Appreciate the idea.
In fact in the past couple of years I have improved my overall diet tremendously
and include EFA's as well as very high anti-oxident food stuff.

This has helped, but mainly with early arthritis, age spots (liver spots) and I am all but 100% migraine free now.

Perhaps the tiniest amount with my skin being a little more elastic (a good thing) but less overall dry... Ehhh...

try vitamin E capsules or vitamin E oil. Just a little bit should provide enough coverage to the dome.

I'd try using a shaving oil if you haven't already. Then I would find a good aftershave balm or oil and on me anyway....that takes care of it!
It's all about attitude!

Do all of the above.
Just showering is even too drying to my overall body.

Then on the scalp the extra action of a blade edge.

NOT really complaining just a fact for extra dry skin, but not all flakey.
Call it an observation.

Not a big deal I shave as much as I like (almost) just give my head and body a day off a bit more often.
Just not shaving 365-365. It is too harsh for my skin type.

So is 365 showers a year to my body.

Prior to head shaving routine I only showered 3-4 times a week.
I am basicaly a clean guy and I don't have dirty phobias even!  :*))

Hey Dog,

Soap, body wash and normal shampoos have surfactants which dry the skin. Most shave gels and foams also contain surfactants. Moisturizers can leave the skin feeling greasy. Here is my recommendation to help the problem and you may think it to be self serving, but read all of the comments here on SBG and you will find that most agree.

1- Use Bald Guyz Daily Wash & Shampoo which is designed to clean the skin and not to dry it out, but in fact moisturize it
2- Bald Guyz Shave Gel is infused with moisturizers and is amazingly slick to help prevent razor burn and irritation.
3- MOISTURIZE often. Bald Guyz Moisture Gel contains 17 vitamins, herbal extracts, moisturizers and antioxidants and is formulated to help the skin to get into a proper moisture balance. All you need is a small amount to use after you shave, after you shower, anytime at all.

The skin on the head is ultra sensitive. Even the "Best" products are not totally formulated to satisfy it's needs. It is abused by the sun, the natural oils it exudes, pollution etc.

If you have not tried our products yet,and purchase them from baldguyz.com and are NOT 100% satisfied in 30 days, write to me personally and I will refund your purchase price. I am that confidant in our products.

I hope this helps and look forward to your comments.

Hello Mr Head!

In fact I do use BG moisturizer.
To date it is the one single head related shaving product I find to be the best.
A 9.5 out of 10 (I don't believe in perfection/10)

Gels and shaving creams? I am a pure oil used to shave guy, the extra lathering I find unnecessary.

I have not tried your daily wash/shampoo yet so I will look for that.
Is that a general body wash or is it meant primarily for head/hair as a shampoo.

Enjoy the day,
Eric (aka Dog)

Hey Eric,

Our Shave Gel is non foaming and VERY slick. The Daily Wash & Shampoo is for the head and face but you can use if for your bady too. A little bit goes a long way.

You might want to try Curel skin moisture lotion, it's very cheap and one application a day is reccomended for dry skin, scalp and otherwise.  It's not greasy, it's quickly absorbed, doesn't have any fragrence and leaves your skin very soft.  It should be available at your pharmacy.

Have you tried just pure aloe vera gel?  It's not that expensive, and is pretty natural.  I bought a big bottle of Fruit of The Earth aloe gel at Bed Bath and Beyond for like $4.  You also might want to to try Aveeno Positively Smooth shave gel...it has a soy based ingredient....that may help with the dryness too.  Good luck.....
