Naval Reserves
« on: June 26, 2009, 01:43:27 PM »
Hey guys, Ive got an appointment with a recruiter Monday (6/29) about joining the Naval Reserves. Any pointers you all could give me other than "Take it all with a grain of salt"? haha.

Thanks so much guys!

Do it if you feel your service is in the best interest of the country and that is your only real interest--i.e. you'd do it for free. O0

If you feel that you'll get a good "retirement" deal, some extra $$$, some "free" travel and possible access to the PX--please cancel the  appointment. :x!

Go for it!  I actually started out in the reserves before I went active duty...

And yes, you will get some extra $$, access to the NEX (PX is for wussie army and AF), and definitely free travel... plus you'll be serving your country!

A good friend of mine left the active Navy and went into the reserves... he loves it!

No, my main reason is that I honestly feel a (excuse the cliche) "call to duty". Ive been wanting to do this since I got out of high school and didnt. The money and all the other stuff, yeah, thats cool, but its not the main reason.

Thanks so much guys. I appreciate the advice. I have to admit im a bit nervous, but very excited.

Peripheral: a good thing youre doing. Be careful and make sure u get that extra pension from the govt. And, of course, u wont need a haircut to comply.

Real men join the Army or the Marines but you go ahead and join the swabbies. They do a pretty good job.

Well, the meeting went well, but I wouldnt be making as much as I thought I would. But what should I expect for two days out of the month? Thankfully, Ill go in as an E-3 because of my 4 years of NJROTC. Do any of you all know if its required for my employer to continue to pay for my time away?

Most of the Reservists that I knew used two weeks paid vacation time in the summer.
