I have heard that it extends the life. Some guys here have been using Olive Oil with some success.

I use and found olive oil is good and the blade slids easy, and i get 3-5 shaves out of one blade, also i gat agood shine on head and olive oil good to soften skin ,and i geta smmoth shave with it, and no you don`t smell like a potato chip afterwards, and olive oil will put shine to hair for those who choose to keep their hair also.

I tried the olive oil thing. Keeping my blade in it in between shaves. I have to say it worked, but for me it added 2 or 3 extra shaves and for the hassle and the mess, I just decided not to keep doing it.

Mineral oil is just baby oil without all of the perfumes. I remember mom feeding me that stuff by the tablespoon when I was a kid. If I close my eyes, I can still taste it. It is actually an acquired taste. But also is a good rust inhibitor and will prevent lime deposits from hard water from forming on the blades. In fact, just about any kind of oil should do the trick.

I usually rinse my blade with alcohol after a shave. I think it extends the life of the blade for me.

Thanks for all the advice. I've tried the mineral oil thing...once. It was too damn messy and it completely destroyed the lubricant strip on the blade. Also, I use olive oil almost everyday while cooking and I just can't bring myself to put that stuff on my blade, much less my head! I'm probably going with Gary's method on this one. I only get 4 - 5 shaves out of each blade to begin with. Since I use the sensor exell and the mach III for clean up it really doesn't hurt the wallet too bad.
Thanks again!

Anyone ever think of using the olive oil soap for shaving? I never thought about it before... but the soap does wonders for the skin, maybe it would work on the hat rack. Any thoughts anyone?

I've never tried mineral but I had a sample bottle of "razorlast" which worked pretty good but isn't something I'd actually purchase by itself. I did get a couple of extra shaves from my atra blades though. Now I'm de shaving and at 19 cents a blade which last at least 3-4 shaves each, I don't bother with oil.
