If I can't scare 'em off there's no hope for all mankind

I answered the door just once buck naked and I've never had another solicitor since. I guess my fat ass scared the life out of them and they put me on the "don't knock on that door" list.

i figure having to see me naked is a TRUE test of their faith and commitment. if they will put up with that, they are pretty deep into their cause.  ha ha ha ha

I had a couple of 'wet behind the ears' guys knockin' on my door a couple of weeks ago..
dumbasses.. my son said I'll go get my mum... and when I turned up they said..."Oh, there must
be a mistake, can you get your mum please" smooth talkin' aussie git.
lol derrrrrrrrrr! I aint fallin for that sh*t! I just smiled pleasantly, said no thanks and sent them on their way (they musta been about 12 or something!)
I've had some real pushy feckers at my door before now though.. some lady trying to get me to change
my gas supplier put her foot in my door!! Yeah right love, that aint gonna work!!
didn't take her long to get the message...

the thing that bothers me so much about these people is that they are so persistent and they
prey on the elderly and infirm.. there should be a law against people cold-calling.

just to let you american guys know.. that solicitors are something completely different over here

Well I have two sides to this issue. Alot of my previous life was door to door sales with pest control. If I had sat by the phone and depended on people to call me for service I would have went BROKE along time ago. Not to mention I cannot begin to count the number of people who had termite problems they did not know they had and later thanked me for coming by and offering an inspection because they would have never known. In over 20 years of doing this I count on one hand the number of rude people I encountered. Now that being said I did not make a habit of knocking on someones door who had a NO SOLICITING sign. If someone said "No" or "Not Interested" I thanked them and went on my way. I know it's a pain for some people but remember these salespeople are just that  salesPEOPLE. Like everyone they have families to feed, bills to pay, etc. and generally speaking sales does pay better than most jobs for the "go getters". Now that being said if someone is rude or argumentative then slamming the door, running them off, etc. is certainly a proper course of action.

Unfortunately the new breed of door to door sales people have ruined it for the decent and honest business people.

Every few weeks a large white van with California plates on it pulls up to the corner and 6-8 people pile out and start going door to door.  They are from Sacramento and have come to Reno to sell for Kirby.  They come to your door and when you say "no thank you" they say, "you don't even know why I'm here!  I say, I don't want to buy anything" and they say "I'm not selling anything!  I'm here to give you a free carpet cleaning"!  I say "no thank you" and they reply "but..." etc. etc.   It keeps going on and on and on until I finally have to say "get the f*** off my property"! 

And in the past 26 years here, I can only remember two or three people who were actually polite.  Now, I expect an argument every time and they do not disappoint me so I don't come to the door  defensive, I come to the door OFFENSIVE!

Yeah..I hate it when door to door people do things like that. I always found I got " alot more flies with honey than with vinegar." we have the ADT security people that make the rounds here about every 6 months but so far they have been courteous so I return the same when saying no. I have been known on a couple of occassions to give some younger sales people some advice when they were a bit too agressive and as far as the Mormons and Jehovahs witnesses I probably take the most agressive stand with them. I cut sales guys and girls a bit of slack since I know where they are coming from...but...there is a line no one should cross. No thanks means No thanks!

A few years back and a  lot of pounds lighter, I was way involved in Isshin-Ryu karate.  I wore a black Gi and worked out alot (Hmmm...maybe my stopping led to my weight loss?) well, some solicitors came by... me dripping with sweat, dressed in black, breathing heavy, all worked up and such.  They ran off.  The wife thinks that they mayhaps thought I was a Satanist or something. LOL

My dog likes to greet people at the door.  Quite often they don't stop to tell me what they wanted.
I hadn't to call the curry delivery driver back the other week as he saw Vincent and was half way up the drive in no time.

back in the days when my brother and i were in martial arts we were in the yard with the focus mits and just tossing each other around, and doing combo's on the mits it was great. a jehovah Witness that came regularly to drop off them damn magizenes. well when he seen us going full out on each other, he did a full 180 and walked away, the old man was on the patio and i was facing the direction he was comming from, we both started laughing.


another time i was walking to work and a couple of morman's wanted to give me a "gift" well i pretend i'll accept it but the second he lets go i do too, he said oh your droped this.... no you did and i continued on my way.
