DO U know how 2 drive "stick-shift"?
« on: April 17, 2008, 08:53:09 PM »
hello fellow chrome domes:  just got back a couple of hours ago from a very beautiful, romantic date w/ the wifey.  anyways... while we were in route 2 the restaurant... we stopped 4 the red light and when the light turned green this nissan truck was "bucking" like a rodeo!  the teen-age girl appeared 2 B having a driving lesson with her daddy. :D  anyways... after multiple attempts & with the truck doing the "rodeo" dance she finally got it off 1st gear.  the wifey & i were laughing so hard and so was the girl and her dad. :*))

anyways... just wondering... do U know how 2 drive "stick-shift"?  if U do... who taught U?
i'll start:  i drive manual transmission and i prefer driving "stick-shift" over automatic.  my dad taught me how 2 drive initially but a college buddy of mine taught me how 2 drive manual transmission.  so... how 'bout U?  what's your story?

Every truck I have ever owned was and is a stick.  Dad taught me (with plenty of loud verbage) on an old station wagon we had that had the stick on the COLUMN.

Real men can drive a stick.  I learned on a three on the tree in a 61 Chevy Biscayne and a 49 Ford army pick-up.

i drove a big truck for years, so I think I got the stick thing down ;D. My dad taught me how to drive a stick in a big truck when I was 13, then I figured it out from there on my own O0. I had a couple of rodeo shows myself both with pops and on my own, and both were full of choice verbage :*))

I learned how to drive on a '71 Toyota PU with a 4 speed.  Drove in around my dad's farm.  That old truck was soo beat-up and was rusted through the floor, but ran like a top.

I learned in an old Ford Escort.  I can't remember the year.  My friend who had been driving about a year before me taught me in our high school parking lot one weekend.  Then my mom about a few weeks later handed down her Escort to me and I learned the rest myself from there.  Did some rodeo myself.   ;D

I drive manual, I really really don't like driving automatic! There was no way my bro or dad would have allowed me to not learn in a manual car.

I purchased a rad little manual car before I could drive at all.....so I had to learn manual.

Dad tried to teach me but he was a stress head, so the cop that lived upstairs taught me good old hill starts....I've never looked back!

I've always thought....what if you were in an emergency and you didn't know how to drive manual.....what would you do.....stall the car over and over and over....no thanks!!!

I only learned how to drive stick about 5 years ago when I got a job delivering hot tubs. It only took a few days time and it is great to have the ability.

My best mate is 32 and he cant even drive auto!Doesnt even have his license.

I've been in plenty of situations where I was the only one who knew how to drive stick.

My first car at 16 was a Dodge Omni with a stick shift.

Learned to drive on an automatic and dad later taught me the manual transmission.

We currently mave both (Acura CL is automatic), 4Runner is a stick drive. Both the Lovely Mrs. Schro & I drive both cars.

Well I know how to drive a stick....but I sorta had to learn myself.  I remember there was this truck that I liked and wanted to buy..but it was a stick shift....my dad was with me and he said wana drive it?  I was like I cant drive a stick you know that.  He said well hope in we will take it for a test run.  Well my dad got in the drivers seat...and we took off.  We drove around for a while and he pulled up in front of his house....and i remember feeling a little sick to my stomach because I knew he was going to have me drive it....so anyways...he walks into the house.  Im sitting outside waiting for him to come back out and he never did.  I went inside and he was sitting there reading the newspaper..i was like DAD! what are you doign.  He said reading the paper...havent you left yet?  I was like I cant drive that , i will tear it up.  Well  I dunno he said...but mom's got supper ready and Im gonna eat.  The car lot closes in 15 minutes you had better hurry up he said.  I was pissed.  So I go out there in the truck and I did manage to get it back to the carlot....and I ended up buying it a few days later but I could have kicked my dads ass.  LOL...thats one way to teach he me said...oh well....at least I learned...and real quick. LOL

I will admit that there is one way that a automatic is better.  When you dislocate your shoulder skiing and have to drive to the hospital, and call your parents to meet you there with the insurance information, it is waayy easier to do it while driving an automatic.
