Satellite Radio
« on: April 12, 2008, 07:52:01 AM »
I know this was discussed some time ago, but I'm just wondering how those of you who have tried satellite radio like it and which is better -- Sirius or XM? Are these two companies still talking about merging?

I don't need 100+ radio stations and am not quite to the point where I'm willing to pay for radio, but I'm starting to at least think about it.   Free over-the-air radio is so bad these days and is just not a good source for music anymore.  I've got a pretty extensive music collection and I also listen to music on digital cable, but I need an outlet for exposure to new music -- GOOD new music, not the crap that is currently polluting the airwaves.  Sirius seems to have some interesting channels.  Just not sure that it's worth $12.95 a month for the small handful of stations I would actually listen to.

Razor, I'm kinda at the same place.  I never thought that I would ever consider paying for listening to the radio.  The car I just bought has XM and only has a few "teaser" stations active.  My in-laws have it on both their vehicles and say they wouldn't be without it.

I'm tempted to give it a try

I have had Sirius for two years now and I would find it hard to live with out....The merger has received approval from the justice department and now is waiting for FCC approval...This has been the longest wait for a merger in US history...
It will be great once it is approved, you will then be able to listen to all of sports on one radio...As of now the the major thing sirius is missing is baseball...
Go to the site listed below and it will answer a lot of question including the new pricing structure once they are merged...

I've had my sirius for almost 2 years and I too couldn't live without it. Regular radio does suck and with the driving I do I need what sirius offers. I listen to more talk radio but the music they have is awesome everything you could ever want is on there.

I used to say I would never pay for radio but now that i have, there is no way I'd go back unless they completely changed every format they have, and get rid of the FCC and that will probably never happen.

What they need to do is break up the conglomerates that own virtually all the radio stations and end the incestuous relationship they have with the major record labels (which are all owned by four big conglomerates themselves).   There's a small handful of people deciding what everybody gets to hear on the radio and that's why there's so little quality to be found there anymore.

Thanks.  If they end up offering a package that let me just select some of the stations I really want, I might consider it.

Thanks for the "heads-up" Mojim.  $6.99 sounds like a good try-me package.  Got my interest peaked now.

I drive all over the northeast and I have XM radio, because I hate trying to find a good station.  I will never go back regular radio.  If I ever do, It will be public radio (no commercials)

I've had XM for a couple years now and would highly recommend it.  Regular FM radio is hard for me to listen to with all the commericals.  Satellite really does spoil you.

Another plus is I have 2 additional receivers in my house.  One is hooked up to my Bose, and the other is a portable boom box type of thing.  I figured the more I use it, the more I can justify the price.
