The Unthinkable
« on: March 30, 2008, 09:48:42 PM »
What's up Sly Bros?  I've got to be honest with all of you.  This head shaving thing can get tedious some times.  As of late it seems more so.  I don't know what it is.  Whether I've just gotten too lazy or if I'm just tired of the routine all together.  I think it's a little of both.  It's like last week.  I went for my usual 2 days without shaving.  Went to get a shower.  Washed up and got ready to do the every other day deed.  Then I just decided not to.  It actually felt kinda of good to just be over and done in the bathroom and not have to spend the extra whatever time in there shaving.  Then another day went by and then another.  Before I knew it I had let my hair go a week.  I know...I should be beat.  J/K  ;D  But then I just felt like I should for some reason so I went on and shaved it the next day.  But I gotta tell you that those days I didn't shave like usual felt pretty good.  It's almost like I'm dreading lately to go get ready in the bathroom because of the shaving routine.  Anyone else get this every now and then?  Don't really know how I'm feeling about it lately.  It sure cuts a lot of time and maintenance out by just keeping it trimmed with the clippers a few times a month.  It's almost like I'm ready to let it go for a while and not worry about the thinning.  IDK?  Anyone?

Lance I am totally with you mate. Shaving your head every day is a very time consuming. A great end result of course, but I shave every 3 days now.

Yeah, I totally get like that sometimes. I'm normally an everyday shaver, but I just can't go more than every other day without a shave. I hate the way it feels.. and it makes me head look dirty. I guess because I have blonde hair, after 2 days it just looks nasty. Either way, I totally know what you mean. It does get tedious, but I just love being bald way to much to go back to clippers. Every time I see some guy with a clipper cut, I think "Dear God, man, just get out a blade already!" That's just me though.

Pretty much with Cam all the way.....

I dig being bald too much...and buzzed is not bald to me...

You gotta dig it though bro..and if you're not feelin' the love, maybe SLY isn't right for you at the moment...

Just remember SLY is always only 10 minutes away! ;)

But "Sly is about attitude", right?  I mean, that's the motto isn't?  Not being a smart ass at all.  It's just that's what is always said around here.  But some times I hear people saying "going sly" referring to shaving their head.  Even I've said it a few times when I've posted up.  I know this web site was mainly founded on people that shave their heads but it's, without a doubt, turned into way more than that.  It's like a family type community.  So I guess that would be the other thing I'd be wondering???  If I, and any other "sly bro" for that matter, would decid to grow hair out for a while would we still be considered part of the gang?  Would we still be welcomed here?

I mean, I'm definitely not trying to get something going here Andre but you said, "if I'm not feelin' the love, maybe SLY isn't right for me at the moment."  Dude, I'm one of the nicest guys around here who would give anything at any moment to help someone out.  I was just talking about the possibility of growing my hair out off and on.  I love the bald look.  All I was saying is that it gets tedious from time to time and I was toying with the notion of letting it grow once in a while.  Maybe I took what you said the wrong way.

I get the same feeling sometimes. When I feel that way, I will switch to the electric for a couple of days, than that feeling usually goes away. I think it is just the routine of doing it that causes that for me. I think routine with anything gets boring after a while, same work, exercise, sex, all get boring after a while, so good to try new routines, change things, to spice up our lives a bit.

Sly is about attitude, Lance.   There have been others here who for one reason or another have let their hair grow out, including me.  You have to do what is right for you.  I was on the exact same wavelength just recently, finding the daily shave a bit of a pain and letting it grow for a total of five days.  Just couldn't stand it or the way it looked, so out came the trusty Headblade again.  You are a valued and upbeat member of this forum, so don't even think of "stepping away" or else  :x! :x!  j/k bro.   Be who you have to be, you've got support here.

Lance, I'm right there with you.  I've just come off a 5 day binge on not shaving the head.  I’m the same with my goatee (grow it, shave it….repeat).  No big deal.

It is all about that SLY attitude we all speak about.  I really don’t think it matters if we shave once a day or once a week.  We all have something to contribute.  That is our bond.

Life is a continual adventure of time-outs. I've done that with my career, my kids, friends, and even my wife. When something gets to be a chore and boring, step back and take a time out. It doesn't matter if it's week or several months. You'll know when you're ready to go back to the daily routine.

Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do......I gotta shave everyday, but it's not all about attitude with me...
Hair or no hair, attitude and confidence is the way you present your self as a complete package, an inner strength... I think you will be fine no matter which way you go...

My face is more of a pain to shave than my head. I can whip a head shave out in about 1/2 the time it takes for my face.

Just do what you like man... there are no rules.
