Holy Smoke!

Was smoking the "in" thing to do when most of you guys were in high school?  It wasn't when I was in high school in the 80s.  It was with the generation before me and it seemed to get popular again with the generation that came after.  But in my day, it was really kind of looked down upon and I haven't come across too many people in my age group -- either friends or work colleagues -- that have been smokers.   Just curious.

Yeah, it was real big when I was in High School in the 60's. I started smoking when I was 16 years old and a good majority of the kids smoked and the biggest majority were the females. Of course that was before the big health scare and warnings on the cigarette packs and all. Shoot, you could smoke anywhere, there were no restrictions, not even on the school grounds. Oh yeah, I no longer smoke.....thought I should add that

I have never tried smoking cigarettes or anything tobacco.  When I was young and dumb and was going to keggars etc, I did try something that is used in brownies.  But thankfully that was a one time event.

I have never smoked anything. When I was in high school the 'in' thing at my school was snuff, in the big city it was smoking. There was a time that I was going through a can a day, it was pretty bad. One day I just decided I had to stop because not only was it bad for me, it was costing a bit. Every now and then I will take a dip, like when I go on a long drive to shows or something like that or when I manage to get out and go to the bar with some friends I will take a dip but I am no where near what I used to dip.
 Pigpen, its funny that you mentioned dipping alot when in the dairy business. When I milked about 140 cows 3 times a day that was then I was doing it the most. I dont know why, maybe it was the smell or something, it was odd. Every once in a while when I milk the goats I get the urge but I have to tell myself no.

i dipped for awhile. but quit when i was smoking apack a day while still dipping a can a day. have quit smoking a couple times but have picked it back up. unfortunately.

Yep, Damn things gonna kill me. Been smoking steadily since age 14.
Have managed to quit for a year on 2 occassions, but ended up picking them back up.

I smoke when I'm bored.  I quit several years ago, but when I get bored or drink I just can't help it.

Smoked heavily throughout late high school/college. I have quit now but it's weird. I won't smoke for months and months, and then randomly I'll buy a pack and smoke it all in like two days and be done for another couple of months.

Smoked a pack a day for 25 years, quit 5 years ago.
