Convention
« on: June 07, 2007, 10:48:49 PM »
Going to a convention in Atlanta where I'll see a bunch of people I haven't seen in a while.
While my handle is BBCin1999 I have a full head and have only been sly on and off since then.
Need some support to shave before during and after and every day I am there.

Start getting nervous and want to hide under some wool, but know i'm better off Sly!

Help me out..

JJ

Stand proud, tall, and bald.  You'll be fine.  They'll see that you have a full head of hair and know they're seeing the real you.  It wouldn't be bad to have a few good zingers in your back pocket that you can drop jokingly (although probably not really) if need be.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

As Stew said, wear it with confidence and everything will be great!

You wear the sly look well and will find that you are the only one concerned about it.  From past experience, nervousness over others seeing you sly for the first time is pretty much a nonevent.  As the others have said, walk in confident and sly and its all downhill from there.  Good luck...but ya won't need it. It's normal to feel that Way I get like that sometimes.. just don't understand why.. cause I love the sly look and feel good about it..

So have a good time.. walk with your chin up.. and try not to show your concern over others reaction..
you will see that it will go well..

Good luck..

I'm having my class reunion the second weekend in July and a very large majority of the folks I will see there have NEVER seen the SLY side of me. I'm genuinely looking forward to it! I've put on about 50 pounds since then too.

You'll be OK, wear it with confidence and everyone will wonder who the new you is!

I got rave reviews at my reunion in 2005 with the Sly look.

Thanks for the great support!
I'll be confident and go baldy ahead and enjoy the reactions.

Like the idea of a few zingers!!! Someone is always trying to joke and best to be prepared.

Being Sly makes everyday exciting...

Just like Tyler, my 20th reunion everyone (especially the girls) said it looked way better and suit me well...most of the time I think people surprised themselves saying that (aren't guys supposed to look better with hair?!)..

Dude, don't even think about growing it out for the convention...you'll regret it the second you see a dude sportin a shiny, sly bald head...

Shave my friend and enjoy how cool and confident sly makes you feel! O0

If you are comfortable in the SLY mode now, then go just like that.  Why hide behind a little stubble?  Go and enjoy the attention.

I agree.   I always feel nervous the first time people see me sly -- not so much as I used to but the apprehension is still there occasionally.  But Andre is right -- the first time you see a guy with a shiny bald head, you'll be so sorry that yours is hidden under some stubble.  Happened to me at a wedding I went to a year and a half ago.  There were two or three other sly guys there, and I was not one of them.  And I still had to listen to a group of 50- and 60-year-old men tell me how bald I'd become.

Tough it out and you'll be glad that you did.

Hey, RazorX,

I know what you mean,  one day, people think it's cute to say, "getting a little thin up there."  Then you go sly, and nobody says a word.

I wonder why balding is the only physical condition that people feel so free to make fun of.  I mean, nobody goes up to a blind person and says, "Can't see too well, Huh?"

I wonder why that is?

And bbcin1999, I think you will find going sly is a big nonissue.  At times I even forget I'm bald because nobody really treats me any different.

I don't know, but in my experience, the only people who ever make comments like this are middle-aged and older men.  Either they have all their hair and feel that it is some sort of accomplishment to still have it when someone younger does not, or they are bald and are thrilled to see that it's happened to someone else.  I don't get it.

I ran into one of my parents' neighbors about two years ago, that I hadn't seen in a long time.  He is one of those guys that is just covered with hair -- arms, back, chest, and he still has all of the hair on his head, too.  He pointed to my head and said, "What happened here?"  I was really tempted to point to his stomach (he'd put on a lot of weight) and ask, "What happened there?"  I didn't say it, but I really wanted to.   >:D
