Justifying Be Sly
« on: September 18, 2012, 09:08:42 AM »
Just wondering if any of you ever felt like you had to justify why you shaved your head.  For me, I felt that I had to.  When I started shaving, I was seeing a lot of hair in the drain when I showered.  I also still had a lot of hair left.  But since it was MY head and no one else's, I noticed that the hair was retreating from my front.  So for the first few years, I got questioned by family and some friends as to why I did it.  Some of them felt that it wasn't necessary.  The reason I am asking this is because I felt I had to explain.  But the past few years it has become apparent why I shave it off.  In fact this weekend, I realized that I really don't need to shave the crown any more.  It is pretty smooth there.  So I shaved everything else but the crown initially.  It actually got me pretty smooth.  I did end up shaving the crown as there are stragglers.  But has anyone ever felt like this?

Nope. Don't need to justify it to anyone but myself.

Nobody's asked me why yet, but I would just tell them I like how it looks on me.

I had some justification keeping the shaved head. As most of you know, The Lovely Mrs. Schro was not a fan of my shaved head. However, finding relief from seborrheic dermatitis was the main reason I kept it sly. The nice thing is, I think she's actually warmed to the look (at a minimum, she isn't saying anything).

At first, if asked why I did it, I'd just say I was tired of having hair. Now I say "because I wanted to". My head, my hair, my choice.
Hair is over rated.

I had per-fuse thinning on the crown so it was going to need to be done sooner or later. I choose sooner. My wife  :@` was against it at first but has now warmed up to it. We both realize my hair days are done.
Life has three aspects: Paradox, Humor, and Change.

Paradox: Life is a mystery; don't waste time figuring it out.
Humor: Keep a sense of humor, especially about yourself. It is a strength beyond all measure
Change: Know that nothing stays the same.

Borrowing a line from an old Rogaine commercial: "I love my Dad, but I'm not in a rush to look like him". My dad had a donut hole, as did my grandad....When I lost my front hairline, and people asked, I just used the aforementioned quote.

I wanted to do it so I did.  No one has ever asked me why.  My wife wasn't too thrilled at first but quickly decided she preferred me sly and has never commented since.

Same here. No one has asked - nor do I expect them to. It was all for me.
