Hey guys,
I've lurked on here some but this is my first post. I'm 25 and have been balding since I was about 22. Mostly around the crown but also have a receding hairline. I have come to terms with the fact that I will probably look better completely bald but my concern is that it might not be an option because I injured my head during college, around age 20-21 and now have a scar and a slight bump on my head toward the front, maybe 2 inches behind my forehead. I feel like it will look weird if I shave my head and have a bump on my head and a scar. Do you guys know if a dermatologist might be able to fix this with surgery or am I kind of screwed? Thanks in advance for the help.
Without seeing it I cannot say for sure, but scars can easily be revised by plastic surgeons to become almost invisible. Bumps may be more problematic - depends on what the bump is (bone versus soft tissue - soft tissue is a lot easier to fix).
Since I still have hair in that spot it is petty hard to show but since the bump was cause by an injury I assumed it was scarred tissue, though I could be wrong as it does feel pretty hard.
there is always an option. welcome
I think it is most likely scar tissue as well - although a hard enough blow can cause extra bone growth at the site of injury, it is more likely scar tissue and can be revised by a plastic surgeon also!
First off, Welcome to the site....Secondly, I felt compelled to reply to your post, because I can kind of relate to what you're going through. I'm going to give a skimmed down version of this story, because I want to encourage and/or help you here. In December, I had minor surgery to remove scar tissue from a gash on the cranium that had been there since the mid 1980s. That operation was successful....In April, I had surgery on the nape of the neck to prevent recurring boils and cysts that kept popping up back there. While both left small scars that are noticeable only if either someone looks up close or by another observant guy with a shaved head. The scars on most days do not bother me, but on the days that they do, a small dab of concealer does the trick....but even the small scars are an upgrade over what I had to deal with before, at least that's the way I feel...In your case, without a picture, I can't really tell you, but regardless, most dermatologists can recommend whether surgery is a viable option or not....even if you are not satisfied with the first one, second and third opinions won't do you any harm, especially if this is a surgery you feel you need to have to make you feel good about yourself going sly. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me, though I can offer better advice if you were to post a picture. Good luck, enjoy, and keep up posted!
Have you actually seen the scar, or are you going purely by feel? Because I've recently earned myself a little one on the side of my head after an incident at work, and I know it feels so much worse then it looks! Just an idea, if you feel surgery is a path you want to go down, then go for it man, whatever it takes to make you happy in your own skin! As long as it doesn't involve a rug!
