Hi there,
I am a new member from Scotland and hoping I can take the final step to becoming Sly. I have shaved a few times in the past but have not had the confidence to show it off or keep it. I have slowly been getting shorter and shorter buzz cuts and I am now sitting with a 0.5. I really want to stay bald...any good tips for taking the plunge?

Hello and welcome to this site Scot.
What are your reasons for wanting to go Sly? If you really want the look, just jump in and do it. Even if you tell yourself that you are only doing it once just to see what it will look and feel like. Do it, get the curiosity out of your system. There is no other way really.
I never dreamed that I will ever shave my head bald one day. Three months ago I just did it spontaneously, without even telling anyone. I decided that I will not care what people think and now I love it so much that I know I will never go back to my thin, boring, receding hair. When you do it this way, without over thinking it too much, you will be surprised at how much confidence you develop.
Good luck with your choice and feel free to ask. There are a great bunch of guys here. Also, read some of the posts about why people went Sly and how they coped with possible negativity.

Tips? Yes. Just do it. I believe that the most common comment on this site is, "why did I wait so long."
Waine, I like your story and example.
Scot, go for it . Get your razor out and start the 30 day challenge.

Welcome Scot!!!
Listen to the guys and just give it a go. The pre-shave worry ALWAYS turns out to be a whole lot of worrying about nothing.

F77Scot, welcome.
I have shaved a few times in the past but have not had the confidence to show it off or keep it.
Why specifically did you not have the confidence to keep it shaved?

Frontier Guy, mainly due to what people at my job will think. I feel I have been building up to it and really want to be BBC....just haven't been able to take the final step and then go outside and be proud of it!

Then it's time. People at work don't live your life and shouldn't be controlling it. And as most of us have learned - other people (work mates, friends, relatives, et al) are generally more concerned and involved in their own lives that they really don't have time to worry for your hair.
Sure, you'll get a few comments (pro or con) but I know you have the self-confidence to move forward. Read some of the other forums for the experiences of others and you'll see that overwhelmingly the drastic change has been met with little more than a comment or a compliment.
Though, I don't know if anyone has warned you, you should be prepared for surprise requests from gals who want to "touch it." Totally floored me the first time it happened. Now it's just an added bonus on some days.
Keep us posted. But I really think you're ready.

Thanks for the warm welcome guys, thanks for the words of wisdom Frontier Guy....I feel I am almost ready. I am going to be on vacation for a week or so now so perhaps this is the ideal time to go for it and just get used to it myself!?

I'm BBC as well. My job in IT takes me all over our building at work. Out of the 100+ people I interact with on a daily basis, exactly 2 have said anything about me going sly. Don't worry about them....do what you want.

Welcome, F77Scot! You can (and obviously want to) do this brother. There's too much thinking going on. Not enough doing.
People at work don't live your life and shouldn't be controlling it. And as most of us have learned - other people (work mates, friends, relatives, et al) are generally more concerned and involved in their own lives that they really don't have time to worry for your hair.
Wise words from FG (as usual). I hope you remember them.
It's your life. You are the only one who has to live with yourself 24/7. Might as well be happy with that arrangement.
