So I shave my head using a Mach 3 razor, with a nice shaving cream from the BodyShop - its better then any other shaving cream / gel I've ever used - my skin no longer gets irritated when I shave.
However, I still have a good amount of hair growing ability left on the back of my head and neck and find that this is where I get in grown hairs.
Sometimes it can get bad enough that the back of my neck looks like a 15 year old's face! Lots of pus filled bumps that will actually pop.
I've tried exfoliating, using a toner, and moisterizing regularly but it doesn't help the ingrown hairs keep coming back!
Mayber its because I tend to like a close shave, and will pass over an area until it's completely smooth - but I am hoping that's not it as I love that super smooth scalp!
Any ideas / suggestions?
Man, you got me...I never get them.(knock on wood) I got some when growing a full beard a 100 years ago and rubbed in a lot of Nevia to keep from going nutz from itching.
if your new to shaving, u want to shave with the grain, therefore your head will get use to feeling a razor. i used to use the Mach 3, Profusion Glide, bascially i used to use Gillette products. thing was, it was a close shave, but it way TOO close, meaning i would break out extremely bad. look liked ants had a camp all over my head.
nowadays i used Shick Hydro 5. in my opinion, the best razor i've ever used. Plus i can shave against the grain without worrying about cutting too close because they have skin guards, which i'm assumin it reduces the irritation on your skin.
best advice i can give is, let your head heal up for about a week or so. then give it a shot. go ahead and shave against the grain.
after you shave, apply cold water. gently dry your head, and then apply sunscreen & aloe vera. this seems to do the trick for me.
You might want to add some witch hazel to your routine. I use it right after the cold water rinse on my head and it helps a lot. I then apply some moisturizer to my head which helps a lot. I have dry skin so this helps.
