Going on my 3rd day with a headblade sport with the triple blades. I enjoy how easy it is to shave.....but think I could be getting a lil bit closer shave. After even a few hours....the head just isnt as "slick" as after first shaving. Sandpaper feel starts to creep in. Think a double blade would get any closer?

I now use the HB triples but I used to use Sensor Excel twins. I think the shaves were comparable but I think I cut myself less with the triples.

Although a lot of the guys get good results from the HB, there are those of us who like our stick handled tools, the Personna M5 is my favorite. Easy to handle, long on smooth. Welcome to the site, there are plenty of posts on equipment and technique that illustrate the wide range of methods to get to your own personal "Holy Grail" of a smooth dome that lasts.

Rob... try this. Shave with the grain first, then use some type of exfoliator/scrub on your head (ST. Ives Apricot Scrub is very popular, I use the CVS knock off of it), rinse the scrub away, then shave against the grain. Smooth as a baby's butt..........

mach 3 or shick extreme 3 are the best headshaving razors imo, if I didn't spend so much money on my headblade stuff id throw it all in the garbage

Mike speaks the truth! Also put on the sensor adapter and try the cartridge off of a Gillette Custom Plus 3 (basically a Sensor 3 cartridge but cheaper)

I just can't get used to the headblade. My preference is the Personna M5. I shave at around 6a.m. and the next morning the stubble is at a very mininum.

i use the headblade. but after shaving. i re-lather real quick and then go up the side withs a mach 3.
as far as the sandpaper feel...it's inevitable. all depends on how fast your hair grows.

Two must haves when using the head blade along with the scrub is a brush and headslick shave cream. I have gotten away from using the headblade for the past few months started using the hydro 3 and 5 and also the m5 on occassion they all give great shaves. But this past weekend I picked up a new bottle of head slick grabbed the headblade ghost with an attra cartridge on it. Great shave! I think the key to using the headblade is prep and the "lubricity" of the gel or cream. If its not very slick drag will slice ya open!

Welcome to SBG, Rob... and to HeadBlade! There's a lot of good insight from guys on this board, so take everyone's opinion and find out what works best for you.
As far as not getting as close as you'd like - are you going with the grain or against? You'll always get a closer shave against the grain, if your skin isn't too sensitive to handle it. I personally prefer the HeadBlade Triples to the Doubles... but a lot of guys on here use Atra Doubles with their HB, and get great shaves.
Have you always noticed the sandpaper feel coming on that quickly with other shavers? I used to get really early 5-oclock shadow (like 1pm) with other razors and electric products I used. It's a lot better with HeadBlade, but I still get some 'shadow' because my hair is naturally dark.
Best of luck, and keep up the great look!

Rob, the best blade in the world won't get you the close shave you want, if you don't prep correctly. You need to soften up your hair and scalp. Take a nice warm/hot shower before shaving!

By doing this any blade should cut closer to the scalp.

That real close shave feeling only last for a short time. I suggest keep your hands off your dome and you won't feel the velcro.Yes, easier said then done.
