30 Days & Shadow

So this is my first post even though I found out about this forum about a month ago. I'm 18 and my hair started thinning out when I was 17. It was wierd though I thought I was the only 17 year old on the planet to go bald, turns out I know about 3 other people from my school that are thinning and a few others. I still think it would have been better if I could of had the hair of my mom's dad who still had a full head of hair at 72.
Anyways so Around last summer I started shaving my head with clippers so I wouldn't have to worry about the thinning. But lately my hairline has receded greatly and its thinner uptop. My dad trys to assure me its not as bad as I think. So I've shaved my head completely in the last 2 months about 3 times with the razor. I've never stuck with it a whole 30 days even though I don't know why because when my heads completly shaven I dont think about my hairloss and than as my hair starts to grow back it gets a lil depressing.
So I think I'ma try this 30 day thing out and while ive been told I look better with hair by some and told by others I look good with a shaved head I myself think I look good and thats all that matters. I'll post a picture up here someday to. I did have one question though. I have pale skin with light brown hair so there is a shadow. While I like the shadow look I think as my hair loss progresses it will be more and more noticable to people that "Wow this kids going bald." So I was just wondering how noticable is the shadow to other people if you keep your head shaved everyday?

Most people won't pay enough attention to your head to even notice how much or how little shadow is showing. They simply aren't as interested in our scalps as we are. It's a big deal to us, and we tend to obsess over such things, but the rest of the world really doesn't care. Most people consider anything buzzed to a #2 -- or even a #4 -- to be "shaved." And when someone goes from a #1 to razor shaved, a lot of people don't even notice, because as far as they're concerned, the person was already bald. So just stick with it for 30 days and don't worry about what anyone else sees or thinks.

ive got a pretty evident shadow too, nobody comments on it, mostly on how good my head looks shaved now. Nobody will examine your head with a critical eye like you do yourself, we are our own worst critics, most things we think is blatantly obvious and horrible, most people wont even see or notice.

Firstly, welcome to the forum, Kenny. Glad you could join us!
Like Razor and Morthen said, nobody really notices at all. Some guys will tell you to go get a tan, either real or from a tube as a way to minimize the shadow. To be honest, you don't really need to, just enjoy your sly dome .... for 30 days. Pale or not, you'll be amazed at how confident and secure in your slyness you will become.

Most likely, only another sly person will ever notice the shadow, which is minimal with daily upkeep, and he or she will probably inwardly applaud you for having the cahones to take control.

Welcome Kenny! Don't worry about the shadow. I have one too and it's just part of it. I'm the only one who pays attention to it.

Yup--we tend to scrutinize these things way more than anybody looking at us does!

I kinda like my shadow too, I might be the only weirdo who does but i just like the alteration in color from my skin to the hair shadow just looks neat.

Welcome Kenny and you look great shaved! You're going to be so glad that you took control and unlike some guys (like ME) who stressed over hairloss for decades. Everyone's right - we're the only ones who notice or say anything about our shadows.

Every balding man will notice your shadow, everyone else will not. Non balding people ask me if I will ever grow my hair out when my shadow at the end of the day is very noticable (to me anyway). I feel like asking them "are you serious?!"
I started loosing my hair when I was 16, and by the time I was 23 I had a donald trump thing going on. Be happy you did this now, and keep shaving it.

Just go with your gut feeling and don't worry what others think. I find that most people who will have a "negative-type comment" are envious because deep down inside, they would love to go sly, but they are afraid too because of either they way they think they will look, or either a spouse (or significant "udder") won't let them.
When I first decided I was going to give the "sly guy" look a try, I compared it to cutting grass and having the lawn mower setting too low. I figured if it looks bad, eventually it'll grow back.....
But since that fateful day, I've never look back and make a daily effort to keep my noggin' as smooth as smooth can git'. (I've even had complete [female] strangers come up to me in public and ask if they can rub the melon -LOL).
If you like the "sly guy" look (and it fits you well) then just go for it.....
You're
NOT going to please
EVERYBODY, so don't even try- just go with the look that pleases
Y-O-U the most!!
'Nuff said...

That is so true - -I always look to see the shadow on other guys and many times we will talk to each other - - -I think we all have a little shadow - I shave every day so I make pretend I have no shadow and if I look - it is there - - -join the club - it is not so bad

Yep...noone else is going to notice the shadow. I just recently went from clipper shave to razor like you and none I know has even mentioned it. Like posted earlier.....anything cut below a #2 is considered shaved to everyone but all of us!!

Yes, yes, yes!!!
It's true! It's all true!! Virtually nobody (NOBODY) will notice the shadow, except for balding or bald guys who obsess about hair. OK, with that said, it's a fairly large group of guys; especially as guys get older, more are bald or balding.
BUT... most guys won't say anything! Zip! Nada! Nothing! Guys don't do that sort of thing.
Now, women on the other hand...YIKES! Oh, to be young, single and sly!!!
Dang, I'd have a good time!
Well, as I've said before, "Youth is wasted on the young, because if us old guys had it, we'd abuse it!!"
Go out there and enjoy life!! You are an awesome looking sly dude, and don't you forget it!!!
