p90X exercise and altitude questions and age
« on: April 24, 2010, 12:29:22 PM »
Ive thought about doing the P90X exercise rigimend, but iam worried about the altitude here in Loveland, the altitude is 5000 feet above sea level, i weigh about 250, and i want to get down to 185 by the summer of 2012, i weighed 340 in the summer of 2008, iam worried about age, iam in my mid 30's is ther anyway i can do a modified program, this is my current exercise regimend
2 - 1500 meter swims a week
5 - 5 mile walks a week
5 - 1 mile rollerblading circuits
1 - 30 mile bike ride - either a circuit in Loveland along rec trails or once every 3 months, i will bike down from Estes park which is 8500 feet above sea level along US 34 to Loveland

I've done it here in Denver @ 5280 ft. (Well, Littleton).  Yes there are all sorts of alternatives.  One is to go through the first 2 levels of the P90 program first.

Another is what I did, even after doing the P90 program....jump in with P90X and just do the first 15 minutes of each DVD....then the next week, add 2 or 3 minutes, then the next week add 2 or 3 more minutes.  This way you gradually work up to the full 45 - 60 minutes.  (The Yoga X DVD is 90 freakin min.)

15 minutes will seem short...WAY short, as some of the warm-up and stretches last 5 to 8 minutes.  But chalk it up as finishing successfully.  You'll feel it, believe me, especially the Yoga.

Duhhh.....I didn't see what you are currently doing....that's some exercising, bro!!

P90X will still be very different, but you might be able to start at 20 minutes or so.

For those of you who are or have done P90X - are the results as dramatic as the guys on the commercials?   I'm going to start as soon as I move (end of May).  I

PDX....I made great strides but fell off the wagon before really getting ripped.  I felt better than any other weight lifting / fitness program I've done.

Here are a couple pics of guys I know PERSONALLY from the BeachBody P90X forum...the pics speak for themselves:

I went through one round of P90x last summer but didn't follow the nutrition like I should have so consequently, didn't get the results I wanted.  I think it was BaldRob that suggested doing the P90x lean first and then going on.  That sounds like a reasonable approach to ease into it if that is at all possible.  Was going to start on January 1 but hit it too hard and tore a muscle in my should so that put an end to that for a while.  Hopefully I can get back and do it straight through coming up - shooting for April 1st at the latest.

How is everybody else on P90x doing with their program?

Wow it's funny I saw this tonight. I've been trying to get motivated to complete it (have only finished the first week before and "got distracted") and keep seeing signs. Guess I should just do it.

With my love of photography, I've been thinking of doing yet another time lapse of the 90day process but I'm honestly going to find it hard to stick to the recommended nutritional outline. Regardless, whether I get "ripped" or just in shape and out of this lazy mood I've been in, I'm thinking it'll be worth it. Just gotta find a way to flip the switch (although the same could be said for shaving your head)...

Gah!

I finish my second week today. This is a tough program so don't get discouraged if you start. I'm not following their diet but change my diet drastically about a month ago. I'm down 13 pounds in a month. My wife says I already look different after only two weeks of P90X.

This I know for sure........... I feel amazing. I'm doing the lean program first at the suggestion of our own BaldRob. These are intense workouts but IO love them. I love the fact that the routine is different everyday.

Check back with me in about two weeks to see how it's going for me...........

My goal is to lose 31 more pounds.
So you achieve the goal, turn sideways, how do we see you??????????????????????????????????????????

Wasn't it the "Duchess of Windsor" who said you can't be too thin or too rich? ;D ;D ;D

Seriously, that's an awesome goal.

I see myself with soemthing I haven't had in about 5 years.... a flat stomach! If I meet my goal I will weigh exactly 200 pounds.... which is 5 pounds less than I weighed when I met my wife over 16 years ago. I was in great shape then. I don't think that 200 pounds on a 6' - 1" fit body is too bad.
