Work Vs. Prison
« on: March 22, 2007, 07:39:51 PM »
Just in case you ever get these two environments mixed up, this should make things a little bit clearer.

@ PRISON

@ WORK

1.   You spend the majority of your time in a 10X10 cell

1.   You spend the majority of your time in an 8X8 cubicle

2.   You get three meals a day fully paid for

2.    You get a break for one meal and you have to pay for it

3.    You get time off for good behavior

3.    You get more work for good behavior

4.    The guard locks and unlocks all the doors for you

4.    You must often carry a security card and open all the doors for yourself

5.    You can watch TV and play games

5.    You could get fired for watching TV and playing games

6.    You get your own toilet

6.     You have to share the toilet with some people who pee on the seat

7.    They allow your family and friends to visit

7.    You aren't even supposed to speak to your family

8.    All expenses are paid by the taxpayers with no work required

8.    You get to pay all your expenses to go to work, and they deduct taxes from your salary to pay for prisoners, and welfare

9.    You spend most of your life inside bars wanting to get out

9.    You spend most of your time wanting to get out and go inside bars

10.  You must deal with sadistic wardens

10. They are called managers

THERE IS SOMETHING SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE!!!!

Now get back to work. You're not getting paid to be on SlyBaldGuys.com!

Funny, and mostly accurate, but in most prisons today they have to actually pay for "Room and Board" not too mention Child Support and Restitution, all this on a under $1/hr Salary. OUCH hehe  But at least working gives them an incentive, because if they don't they are locked down (in their cell) for more hours a day. (Sorry ex-Correctional Officer clarification) hehehe  With recidivism(sp?) the way it is, and some REALLY bad characters on the street due to no room, the system NEEDS a major overhaul. Paul and I spoke about this a lil at dinner. The whole Punishment vs. Rehabilitation. In Iowa, the recidivism is at 88%, and they think they are rehabilitating. Obviously they aren't doing a very good job. Having spent 5 yrs working in there, I learned a lot about human nature. It's funny, inside, if you give respect (which obviously you should, to be professional) I have learned that the odds of getting it back are much higher than at places like the local supermarket/gas station, etc. Wierd, just thought I'd share. We have other former CO's in here maybe theycan add to this. Sorry, not trying to hijack the joke thread. It was funny/and definitely enlightening.  ~Yeti   O0
