Long Hair to Losing Hair? #&*%ing Nature...
« on: April 27, 2009, 05:26:54 PM »
Ok so about a year ago I noticed a little thin spot on my crown.  A year later it's a little bigger and a little thinner & I know something's going to have to give.  My first instinct was to get angry; Why is this happening to me, etc.  Don't get me wrong I don't mean that in a "why me" kind of way...more like a WHY ANYBODY kind of way.  The whole process just seems ridiculous.

Here's the thing, I wear my hair long.  Seriously, like 80's hair band long.  I have had long hair my entire adult life.  It's part of my identity.  I don't know how I can bridge that gap from long hair to no (or even extremely short) hair.  Since I always wear my hair pulled back nobody else has noticed it yet...including my wife until I mentioned it...but I know it's like fighting the tide.

Has anyone here had to go from such an extreme to another?  Any advice would be much appreciated.

Look at this way -- both looks are distinctive. You'll just be trading one distinctive look for another.

^^^^ agree

sorry dude I grew my hair out once as teenager, it came down to my shoulders.
but I have had relatively short sporty hair my whole life...

it's not a bad thing, as you will find out.  I think you should buzz it short and see how it looks, and then maybe take the next step to shaving it.

They say that people going from long hair to bald are easier to get used to than someone with long hair getting it cut shorter. I say that since you notice it other will start to notice so get your self a pair of clippers and shave it down, lol.

I went from long to shaved.  I like it better actually.
I agree that both are unique styles.  I went from shoulder length to buzzed with a 2 until I got some sun on my head.  Then shaved it smooth in the shower one night.  it will be OK.

I appreciate the quick replies...thanks to all of you.

GAslick...That's officer thinking.  I'm considering the idea of going to a 2 or 3 for a bit to get some sun on the noggin.  It doesn't help that my complexion makes your average vampire look dark...

You asked for it.

Pic 1 is from a few years ago.

Pic 2 is pretty recent (and how I look daily).

Dude I had shoulder length curly hair from before I was even a teen. I realized one day that I was losing the battle, so I shaved it and won the war O0

Dude, with the hair pulled back, I can definitely see the shaved look working for you.  As the guys have said, you go from one edgey look to another.  You'll still have a more unique look than most guys.  Give it a shot; you'll probably be amazed at how awesome the feeling is.  Good luck.
How is that Hopey / Changey thing working for you?

Agreed, I can definitely see the bald look when the hair is pulled back. Looks like it will look good on you.  O0
