Cub Scouts
« on: April 26, 2009, 05:59:31 PM »
So, I am the tiger cub den leader for our pack.  I've been for several months, but I am really getting tired of it all.  There seems to be a lot of.... politics, I guess that make doing this kind of lame.  I go to the committee meetings when I can to show my face, I run the flag ceremony for both dens (we are a small pack just have wolf and tigers right now) and I have gotten all my cubs their tiger badge.  I'm running out of steam...  The wolf den leader who is going to take over as committee chair seems look at me like i'm a frikken scum bag because I don't make half of the PACK or BSA functions.  I work for a frikken living!  If I were her boss I wonder how she has time to do all this stuff!

ANYWAYS, I am not writing to vent.  I simply want to know if anyone else does anything for cubscouts?  If so, do you see the same crap?  The den leader position was placed into my lap (more or less) when no else would volunteer to be the tiger den leader.  They were saying they would have no choice to not have a tiger den and my son wanted to be a cub scout, so I raised my hand.  I just feel like there are too many fights and arguments in the committee to make this fun any more.  I wanted to stay in really bad to let my son who lives w/ his mama try it out when he's here for the summer but we'll see if I last that long.

What say you guys??

LOL - Sounds like some of the church committees I've served on.  Just can't help but laugh!

Our pack is sponsored by a baptist church in Anna and the pastor attend all our meetings.  Sometimes I think he is the referee at our meetings let me tell you.  He's good to go though.  He's a good ole boy... Only pastor I know that packs heat HAHA.

Reminds me of my dad.  I've seen him do many sermons in boots.
And yes, he packs heat.

I'm involved in a lot of community things but Scouts is the one thing I've stayed away from. The scouting groups in our area are a mess. A lot of controversy and very little organization.

BReady!

I just recently stepped down as Tiger Cub leader myself.....I know exactly what you're saying.  But the issue wasn't in-fighting and arguments....just over-the-top commitment expectations.

Scouting is great--don't get me wrong--and I love it for my son (the little guy in my avatar pic).  But as a leader....as soon as you're stretched pretty good with yer schedule....they expect you to do MORE!!   If I were to attend EVERYTHING....I'd be going to something 1 or 2 nights a week apart from the den/pack meetings.

It really is for someone who doesn't mind squeezing in ALL KINDS OF HOURS per month to do everything.

I did a lot and was very conscientious to make sure all our kids moved along.  I got to other council events as I could....

One leaders meeting sorta fell through the cracks and an email goes out to "the leaders who bothered to show up."   VERY condescending tone for us to take a look at "our commitment."

Right then and there I passed the baton to one of our den dads....

There's a "clean up day" at our local school this Saturday......AIN'T GOIN!!

I'll just be an active den dad.....
