• Hello and greetings brethren SBGs..........
  
  I shaved my head at lunchtime today. I have been watching my hair get increasingly thin over the past several years....(I just turned 50 a couple of months ago....). I'm married to a wonderful woman (29 years yesterday)....have a great grown daughter who just got married last year....I'm a freelance illustrator......I'm passionate about sports (especially my resurgent Atlanta Falcons)....
  
  I had a couple of things happen last year that kind of led me to this decision. At my daughter's wedding my father came up behind me as I was speaking to a friend of mine and his wife (I had just met the wife for the first time). My pop loudly announced "Wow, your hair is really getting thin on top!" He has dementia, but he would have said that before the dementia hit anyway.....A few weeks after that I saw a woman at my uncle's veterinary clinic whom I used to work with when I was a teenager. The first words out of her mouth were "You have lost a lot of hair!" She had packed on about 40 lbs....and the bad boy in me wanted to say "I couldn't help the hair loss. You, on the other hand, could have mixed in a green salad every now and then." But since generally speaking I'm a pretty nice man I kind of swallowed my hurt feelings, made a joke about it and moved on. I thought about hair plugs but that doesn't really sound like me. My older brother (who doesn't even have any hair loss) started shaving his head last year. That kind of helped me make the decision also.
  
  So I'm going to try this. It sure feels good!

• Welcome to SBG!  Ok I couldn't help but burst out laughing, when, I read the comment about the salad.  That would have been priceless.  I'm sure, it would have made her think twice about saying something so rude again.  And the dome looks great.

  It's weird how some people seem to feel perfectly comfortable commenting about people's hair loss. My mom has very thin hair (My loss was destined to be....) and she has had people come up to her in the grocery store and ask her how long she has had cancer.....Unreal.
  
  I don't have to worry anymore about anyone being able to see my thin spots anymore.....That is a welcome relief.

• awesome story...  i hated it when ppl would just blurt out " wow you are losing your hair"
  but that is how some ppl are, can't control their mouths.

  I just found out an unexpected benefit from having a shaved head....
  
  
  My glasses aren't wanting to slip off when I look down now. I guess since they're attached to Grade A meat now they are securely attached!

• Welcome TK.  Have to agree with BaldMark, that was a great thought concerning the salad.  With quick lines like that maybe standup is in your future.

  I'd have been a lot more subtle myself and responded with something like, "Well some people lose their hair and some people get fat".

  It's amazing to me sometimes what people think they have the right to say.....
  
  It would never even enter my mind to try and embarrass someone like that.
  
  It's all good now though. I have taken my look into my own hands.
